Map viewer and giant red wood trees?

First off im running a server for me and couple friends. Going with Unleashed pack.

Is there a utility that will give me a png of my entire map, that of which i have explored? I used to have something but i cant for the life of me remember what it was called.

Im not sure if im doing it right, but im trying to grow a giant redwood. I planted a bunch of sapplings down in a 7x7 area. Its been many days in game and nothing has grown. There isnt much else around other then grass. Its probably in the middle of a 50x50 flat area. Im not sure if im doing something wrong or maybe its too close to the other one. Thats probably 100 blocks away.

I usually use a 9x9 array of saplings. This allows something like 9 or 10 different 7x7 arrays (inside the 9x9) to grow at the same time and seems to increase the speed. In Unleashed it usually produces a 13 block diameter tree for me, while a 7x7 array usually produces smaller trees. I can get by in an 11 b. diameter but a 9 or 7 is too small for me.

I also make sure to plant the saplings all in one chunk, preferably the middle... I've approached naturally spawned trees only to find it's only half a tree due to a chunk boundary.

I try to have a steep hill nearby to dig my hovel into, and if there is a pond or river nearby I start growing wheat and/or barley, whatever I find.

If I find coal or at least a bunch of wood I make charcoal (if needed) and torches and start digging a stairway down. I then just play until I have tree, usually within 2 hours RL time. I've actually been lucky enough to find diamonds my first trip down, go back up and process iron ore, return for the diamonds and ascend to a brand new tree.

Has the chunk in which you planted the saplings been loaded all that time? It wont grow if the chunks aren't loaded by either you or a chunkloader.

try mapwriter or journeymap. and those redwood trees take ages to grow, though I don't know if things like bonemeal or watering can helps to speed it up

I planted one near an existing giant redwood thinking they were far enough away that they wouldn't collide. I misjudged, but the new tree still grew.

The journy map works. There used to be one that would give you an isometric view that you could open in your browser that would show everthing you eplored.
