Managing liquids with AE

Heya!

I have a huge xy tank full of biofuel, and im also starting with bees.

Last night it ocurred to me that it would be cool to make wax capsules and store the biofuel in them, instead of using the tank.

i think it would make for an infinite tank (as long as you have the wax, which is infinite), and i think most stuff (like boilers) are happy to accept the capsules.

Is there any disadvantage of doing it this way (besides the obvious expense of wax)?

No, it offers significant versatility increases in terms of mobility. Establishing a tank means:

(1) You are limited to only the bottom/second last level of the tank for output
(2) The tank is central to where you locate everything that relies on that tank

But tanks look really cool. Also, managing a system to can and distribute those wax cells might be a nuisance. It also means that you are using normal item piping for them, as opposed to waterproof piping, adding to the complexity in terms of organizations, since your piping options become limited, more so, if you are not using waterproof piping.

My idea is to use AE for everything, like putting the cells in the boilers and probably use a xytank to easily fill the capsules (or maybe a liquid transposer).

The central location for the tank can be avoided with tesseracts, but i still kinda hate having a huge colored cube just outside my base... should look good in theory, but always end up hideous for me...

Ah yeah, missed the AE part.

Do it if it works for you. I personally like dealing with fluid dynamics. Make all my things so much more "real" when I build them.

It will offer you even more significant versatility increases, since you can then use that AE network anywhere, allowing you to transfer that liquid anywhere, with ease. It will also allow you to use enderchests/item tesseracts.


Personally I avoid using tesseracts unless it's absolutely necessary. Organizing piping, elegantly, is challenging and fun =).

Good news for you, AlgorX2 has plans for a liquid based AE system in the future.
