Low FPS in FTB Infinity

Hi I am rocking a decent setup and I was very disappointed when I saw I was only getting about 30 FPS in FTB Infinity. I am new to modded Minecraft and have always played Vanilla. Is there some setting somewhere I need to tweak before playing? I know my GPU isn't the best, but it is still a solid budget card and shouldn't bottleneck my system this bad.
Specs:
CPU: i7 4790K
GPU: r9 270x Gigabyte windforce
RAM: 4x4gb Hyper X fury ddr3
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 LGA 1150 ATX

How much memory do you have allocated to ftb? You can check in the laucher.

If you only have 4GB in the system what is your OS running on? You need to leave 1.5-2.5GB free for the OS, depending on OS and version, or nothing works well.

RAM: 4x4gb Hyper X fury ddr3

16 gigs total system memory, so he has plenty for the OS unless something is eating that ram up in the background

I installed optifine and now the problem is fixed. I am now getting 50-60 FPS which I am pleased with. Thanks for the help anyways!

I found that playing with my java settings worked better than using optifine.

Oh yes, the squint fest that is waiting for a new prescription, I know how that's feels too well. It's fine.

Not to derail but these specs are 6 years old and the UV/photo-gray coatings are peeling right in front of the pupils too, leaving a "frosted glass" area I have to try and look around.
