I have tinkered with setting up minecraft servers at home a bit, but have not really delved into one. But I have been wanting to run a small server for my wife and I, and a few friends. Maybe 5-10 people.
So I have a computer at my shop with good specs, but not really doing anything. I downloaded the "modpacks^Horizons^2_1_1^HorizonsServer" pack last night, got it running and setup the port forwarding.
Went home, connected to it just fine for both me and my wife and started to try and play.
But I got lag, which I am guessing is either server side or latency lag. Like you break a string of blocks, and are 10 blocks from where you started, only to realized none of the blocks are in your inventory, and then you teleport back to where you where a few seconds ago. Or my wife has ran off towards the horizon, but still shows her standing right next to me.
The server is running on a win7 x64 machine, i7 Hasswell CPU, 16 gigs of ram. I have java 7 32bit & 64bit installed as well as the JDK's for both. I gave the server access to 4gigs of ram.
Connection speed at my shop is about 30down / x 5up . Connection speed at my house is 30down x 4up. This was after hours so no one was at the shop working. I'm sure there was a few programs on the varius computers are the building running this, but even with that running I can still speed test 30x5 ish speeds.
I don't think I should be getting this kind of lag with only two people, and connecting to a computer accross town. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!
