LanteaCraft: Compact? No. Transdimentional & intradimensional? Yes, limit 1 per chunk. Power requirements? Needs fuel, I think cross-mod power compatibility is still WIP. Reliability? Uncertain. Ease of use? Low, definitely mid to late game to set up a network, addresses rng & need to be memorized or written down. Looks cool? Oh, YES.

Portal Gun is back. GanysEnd has some interesting options, mostly for moving items & mobs around. I think the ender rails can be used on a moving platform, for those who like frame quarries.

If you are lookin for a teleport system just for urself, not for items/liquids/whatever there is nth superior to Draconic Evolutions "Enhanced Charm of Dislocation"

- it's an item, ergo u carry it around with u
- works from anywhere to everywhere
- you can set waypoints, name them, move their location etc.pp.
- needs 1 ender pearl per port, but once u reached the end thats like whatever
- ports are instant

i dont really get what u got against enhanced portals though. early game till u get above mentioned item, it is the most convenient and easiest way to teleport around. 500RF/t is ike piece of cake even early game. and it never was not-reliable in my games
For transporting items, liquids etc.. I'll probably end up using AE2 quantum links. The Charm of Dislocation appears nice for versatility, the problem is that it isn't "in the world" in the same way as any kind of portal. I'll probably have it as a supplemental item. As for Enhanced Portals, I've had some really nasty bugs with it, that's why I don't trust it and say that it's unreliable. Maybe that's been fixed since last year, but trust is not to easy to regain.

@McJty:
The RFTools teleporters are definitely cool. The need to run cables to them is inconvenient though, here and there. I don't mind the power requirement, but may I suggest a way for wireless power transfer directly into the transmitter/receiver blocks? A short range - say, 16 blocks - would be quite enough.

IC2 teleporters are worth mentioning for ease-of-use. Redstone signal, instant teleport. Plus only the entrace needs power. Quite expensive for materials and power, but infrastructure is easily manageable by the time you can make it.

... I may be a little late to the party, but Refined Relocation (http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum.../1293062-refined-relocation-1-0-8-solves-your) by @Dynious actually adds a player teleporter. Set up the multiblock, link a special teleporter item to it, and then you're gold. Simply hold right click with the item and you're transported to the multiblock. You'd need two of the higher tier multiblocks to get back and forth between dimensions, and the devices have a cooldown, but it' would still be pretty useful, I think. I haven't tried it out myself. As for compactness, the entire thing is (I think) a 3x3 base with a height of 4. I could be wrong, though. Plus, the rest of the mod is actually *really* awesome.

... As to the person who said that IC2 is dying, I agree. RF is the new EU. ;)

I was already planning a kind of wireless power transfer. Not sure when I get around to doing that however.

I should say that the aesthetics of the RFTools teleporters are nothing to scoff at....

The portals actually go nowhere yet except back to the center of the room, I just wanted to see if I could build a nice-looking portal nexus. The info panels on the floor show the destinations. Now if I only had some x64 textures for the portal elements...

Personally, I dont like the rftools portal effect, if it looked less like flat planes Id be more interested. And hmm...I dont think portal gun fits into my idea of minecraft anymore.

Yes I know. I would like to have a better rendering for it. It is on my todo :)

I would like to see that, too. While they do look good compared to standard portals, mostly because they're frameless, the visual effect could be more 3D.

Best Mod for this is Draconic Evolution. It has a Charm that lets you teleport to any place. The Advanced version allows inter-dimensional teleportation. Holds many locations stored in a GUI and can be "fueled" with Ender Pearls. It is overall the quickest method requiring only a Single Slot and is not a block or multiple block set up without using energy or "special mod based items" before you can teleport.

RF tools is probably the second best all around. It can be made as soon as you get the ingredients and can be powers with energy cells.

Mystcraft requires you to explore their worlds to find "crystals" which then allow you to make portals. This of course is my least favorite because it requires an indefinite amount of tries to get a random world with "crystals" in it.

I use RF Tools personally. It works exceptionally great if you have to teleport between certain areas. Once you Label and Program the blocks you don't need a dialing device anymore. They work exceptionally well with EnderIO conduits and can be placed flush with the floor. My only caveat is that you can only teleport to one other device. So for example if you want to teleport to various areas in your base you will either have to dial them up one at a time or set a series of teleporters that are dialed to different areas individually.

Or with 2.80 you can use an interactive screen with buttons to change dialing locations quickly.

Off topic: How did you make that stone at the top all slanted and smooth looking? :S

That's possible with Carpenter's Blocks.

If you want to use it, here the short user instruction: the block you want for most applications is the Carpenter's Slope. As you place it, it will attempt to reshape and orient itself according to some rules involving its neighbours and exactly where you clicked on the neighbor to place it. All too often though, the result is not what you want and you'll need to use the Carpenter's Hammer: right-click to cycle through the available shapes, left-click to cycle through the possible orientations. Click with a non-tile-entity block on the placed Carpenter's Slope to make it take on its appearance. Shift-left-click with the Carpenter's Hammer to remove the "texture block".

More information on the mod's website.

I should warn you, though: your construction work will become much more time-consuming... building seamless diagonal walls can become additive.

What are you looking to teleport? Players? NPC's? Trains?

Blizzard Penguin on the Primus DW20 Server built an AE2 Spatial IO based Teleporter. Worked pretty well except for getting stuck in it when he tested without completing the circuitry to return him. And since it grabs the entire room it's surrounding, it can look as cool as you like.
