So after making my first private server pack me and my friends realized it was getting boring quickly
We started to think about it and the only mods that we actually could enjoy for a longer time are thaumcraft and forestry(the bees).

So now i am looking for mods that are fun for a long time

Thanks in advance :)

(I hope this thread is placed in the right place :p)

Forestry Trees are also fun. Trying to get make the "perfect" tree is neither quick nor easy.

Ars Magika is a very fun "long lasting" mod.

As for making mods longer, Iguana Tweaks does a great job of extending Tinkerer's Construct early game. You can no longer rush a stone hammer and other similar rushes. Getting to Alumite takes quite a bit longer, yet the upgraded tools through experience/use is surprisingly not tedious. It takes longer, but is not grindy like GregTech.

There are also some nice cooking mods out there that have complicated recipes, but are well worth it.

Come to think of it, you sound like someone who'd like MagicFarm2. It has TC4, bees and trees, Iguana Tweaks, and other longer-legged mods. It's neither a quick nor easy mod-pack, but very enjoyable and far from tedious.

What part of your pack is getting boring? Gathering resources too easy? Mobs no challenge?

Part of minecraft is setting your own tasks, all these mods are just extra fancy lego bricks to make use off.

we currently have buildcraft quarrys so gathering resources is easy, i was going to use gregtech (which would have created the technical lategame), but it didnt wanna work so we got tons of resources over since crafting stuff barely uses materials without gregtech. so i am planning on removing buildcraft (It just got anoying with the RF so we only use the quarry anyway) and also if i get gregtech to work that aspect would be fixed (maybe even to hard then :/)

Mobs are also to easy, atleast in the earlygame, in the lategame i wouldnt mind 1hitting mobs (for example with the nano saber,(which is to cheap without gregtech))

Also crafting some of the stuff is just annoying, i dont mind crafting stuff like the quantum chestplate from ic2(?) but to have to use a forge hammer and craft every single ingot to plates are just anoying for example

Also i feel like there is to little exploration, in thaumcraft there are some but then theres not really much (Besides the twilight)
I really like to explore and find awesome looking places too, but my server cant handle me and my friends flying around exploring (i5 2500k@4,5GHz,and also the memory usage skyrockets because of chunks not unloading properly)
so if theres any explorationbased lategame mod i would probably like it (I like the twiligt forest mod for example, something offtopic but yeah, a thaumcraft dimmension with a magic theme would be awesome (could be like one of the last researches))

Sry for a long post with my bad grammar :p

Look into some of the new mods in Horizons. There's a lot of stuff in there most people haven't played with, and the experimenting should keep you busy. (While I feel like a broken record for plugging it yet again...) RotaryCraft is a *huge* mod and has been keeping me busy lately.

Add Special Mobs as well (FatherToast), there have been issues reported with it on servers but you can try, you may get lucky or unlucky considering just what mobs are capable of with those installed.....
Special Mobs is horrible on servers for 1.6.4.

Regarding Special Mobs, it seems if you disable most of it's advanced functionality, you can get it work work on servers alongside ZA. At least you get more variation, but the mod will not be as good as it could be.

Thing I find is that default ore generation is too high, on my server I use custom ore generation which reduces total ores by about 20%. Slows you down a little.

Some of the tweaks I've done to my server are:
Reduced Ore Generation
Zombie Awareness
Hard Difficulty
Mekansim (armoured zombies/skeletons)
Double power usage of MFR
x1.25 power usage of Mek machines
Custom Recipes for Quarry, Computers, Mek Circuits, Universal Cable and a few others.
For exploration of overworld, heavily edited Ruins Mod, Better Dungeons, mod that adds roads, walls, towns (forget the name)

But, no matter what you do, you'll always get a ton of resources.

Plus, any chunk generation will always slow down a server. It's the most demanding part of the game.

hmm Millianaire huh... long lasting mods huh... it seems people really dont bother with configs these days... modify all tech mods where they all output 1 unit per tick... then pump up all the other energy requirements to like 30x they normally need then add in grimoires of gaia let's see if that wont be a pain early game TiCon tweaks... then kill the oregen that will be almost close to 0 else scatter them so much so its so hard to look for them making you use TiCon's ore berries just to supply your basic metal demands then add in GT then Mo's Creatures yeah... thats very much so pumps up the difficulty then better dungeons mod rest of which good luck

I would have liked it but... they say, they want long lasting mods... I gave them how to make sure each mod lasts in a non boring way... I mean sure I have long been used to easterm MMO esthetics... ohh god the grinds... RO.. PSO2... but in the end meh I did forget to add to make all mods use GT recipes just to up the ante. in a world where you can probably get 8 iron in a chunk go ahead... am I helping? probably this is hardcore anyway, oh and change the configs where its impossible to use metals on the parts table... with that said GOOD LUCK orz...

There is a thread somewhere on this forum about a way to extend gameplay. It revolves around setting up tasks for yourself that you have to accomplish before progressing to a new tech level. It requires self restraint since you are the only one that really enforces it. I have similar aims this go around. I am going to use a lot more railcraft and physically move things from place to place.

Less is more. To a certain extent. The more mods you add the easier it will be to quickly get things working. The reason being that there will always be a mod to cover your for you with finished solutions. The reason so many mod packs get so large is that they are compensating for the lack of challenge. Instead of building things you are stuck in a crafting bench, crafting stuff.

Try a mod pack with only BuildCraft, Forestry and RailCraft. ;)

Make yourself have to follow through the guidelines set out in the "Refugees to Regent" challenges. Customize it a bit to your liking. That'll definitely make your playthrough last much longer.

Yea that's the thread I was referring to. Thanks for reminding me :).
