Lightning rod help

How does the lightningrod work? I stumbled upon the recipe and decide to make it. I took it to my lightning mystcraft world and hooked the side of it up to gold wire and to a MFE i brought with me. I'm not sure how exactly the mechanics work for the lightningrod and any help would be great ! thanks !

You need to split its power gain into four HV Converters, one on each side. To actually get it hit, you need to place Metal Fences on top of it, the taller the more likely it will get hit. You might want better than gold wire...

Also, from what I've heard this setup does not work at all in charged ages. It does however work in thunder ages.

As gold wire can only take 128 EU/t, the 2048 EU/t out of each side of the Lightning Rod will fry your gold cable if it get's hit. Use HV cable, it's the only cable that can take 2048 EU/t.

how high should the iron fence go? i placed my lightning rod at 112 and fences go as high as to 164, haven't got a single hit yet, and there are plenty of t-storms around...
