Below are my specs. My problem is lag. Not internet lag, as this is a local game and I prefer to play single player. Probably graphical, or something else. Not real sure whats up. But it's so bad it's making modded minecraft mostly unplayable. I'm currently trying to play Material Energy.
When I turn, it 'stutters' most of the time. I just made a run to miners delight for some ore and it was absolutely unbearable. I don't think there are a lot of mobs around. Or at least I don't see a whole lot. I managed to light up the nearer side around the entrance and to the walls to the left and right. Then I mined stairs down to the right in a spiral. I then used ineffable glass to block the entrance off. I light up as needed and use f7 to see where a torch needs to be. So I get few spawns attacking for the most part. But the lag is nearly killing me with solo or 2 zombies from time to time. But even without zombies the 'slughishness' and/or 'stuttering' are simply horrible.
I just recently came back to minecraft. I quit playing partly because of this very thing. Partly from burn out. Now I want to play and decided to seek help regarding the lag. I'm pretty computer savvy. Because of that I've tried and tried to deal with it on my own. Updating video card drivers/java doesn't fix it. I've scanned my computer and have absolutely no infections. I'm also the only one who uses my computer and i use pretty good security software. Add to that I don't generally do things that can cause infections/problems.
I know, or knew, is probably a better way of putting it, a bit of programming. Including java. I've tried using various flags with, in the past, varying degrees of success.
Now, it was not always like this. I used to be able to play minecraft without any problems. Of course, back then I made my own 'modpack' for my personal use. including only the mods that interested me. But I eventually got tired of doing that and tried FTB and one of it's modpacks (direwolf20) and loved it. Playing direwolfs modspack, back then, was simply fantastic. i didn't have to hunt down individual mods or update them. Back then I also didn't have any such lag. Maybe, maybe, once I'd get close to late game with tons of machines automating pretty much everything. Then I might the occasional 'stutter' when turning. And that was with my view distance on long and fancy graphics..
Now I have my view distance set to 5 chunks. Graphics are set to fast. Smooth lighting is turned off and particle effects are turned all the way down. Still I have massive lag. It's so bad I'm about to quit playing again. There are simply too many games out there to stick with one that you get little to no enjoyment from. But DAMNIT, I used to love my minecraft and i do have a good computer. I built it myself. The only low end thing on it is the graphics card, and it's not a crappy one.
I'm hoping someone here with more specific knowledge of minecraft, java, or FTB can help me hunt down and fix the problem so I can go back to enjoying my minecraft games.
In the past if I'd begin having trouble with a game and couldn't figure out a solution I would sometimes consider formatting my hard drive and trying it on a clean install. Sadly, that's not something I'm willing to do anymore. I have too many games and other things on here to want to lose them all and reinstall them ALL. lol
But pretty much anything short of formatting I'm willing to try. So, anyone want to help this old gamer get his minecraft fix? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome as long as they're constructive and/or your actually trying to help.
By the way, I usually play in a window at about 1440x900. But even full screen the lag persists.
edit:Yes I've searched and tried many recomended ideas. I'm willing to retry various things though to help hunt down the issue.
