I thought mine was fine since I was only using 6 single sticks of uranium and a ton of heat vents and regardless of the fact mine said it had zero heat for some reason it decided to explode. Either by glitch or reasons that I don't understand I cannot ever trust that they wont blow up my base lol.

Totally worth it if you have the resources, I refuse to have anything other then a mark I reaction system
(I'm trying to remember what the reactor classes all are)

I really need someone to tell me what the best reactor is that can run a full cycle

I'm currently using the beginner reactor 3 from the nuclear reactor forums simply to provide me with a lot of EU so I can run the gregtech machines that require a steady supply of EU to work correctly.
Once I get into gregtech a bit more I'll branch out into the other forms of reactor mats.

I had no backup because it was on a server :(

I usually make a backup every few hours or so with ssp...

In regard to containment, that was my next step. Truth is I usually only turned it on for 5 minutes at a time, I knew I was playing with fire, but thought I had it under control.

What had happened was I had a chunk error, logged out then back in and everything loaded up ok. The only thing I noticed and I should have checked for activity, was that the Reactor itself had the green lights on the side showing it as on. I just went up to it on the way out and hit the lever...

For some reason I have to learn the hard way.

Since it happened I have rebuilt most if not all of the things I lost and the first thing I did was make a 5 block thick room of reinforced blocks to contain it.

I am in the process of going through some prebuilt setups, this time around I have to do it properly.

I've always considered Nuclear Reactors to be a very, very high-risk investment if you're not absolutely on top of what you're doing.

I may use one some day, but not until I have spent days playing with them in creative. And even then, it's going to be at the bottom of my quarry pit. Nowhere near my base.

I usually put them in my friend's house.

With warded blocks it makes it worry free if the thing decided to blow up. Besides losing a bit of copper and other mats you still have a base.

That is a great idea. I was using those reinforced blocks. Maybe I will make a warded outer layer.

The highest output MK1 reactor I've found is this one. There are MK2 reactors that can run full cycles, but I tend to stick to MK1's like you.

Reactor -

Display panels for reactor info, system power level and UU-matter level, reactor on/off lever is on the wall to the right -

If it can run full cycles and all i have to replace is the radioactive component, Then it works fo' me, Havent beena ble to finda more optimized one that does better then what i have

Apparently the Nuclear reactors glitch. The green lights on the side show it as being on when it isn't.

I saw this, hit the lever to shut it off, then went on a mining expedition.

About an hour later I come back to a hole in the ground...

All my chests/machines gone. I mean everything...

I got so mad I had to laugh...

*Note to self* Remove Uranium from reactor from now on, just to make sure.
Ouch. You really should encase it in warded stone/reinforced stone. I recommend having these stone layers 2 or 3 blocks thick, and having it far from your base. Definitely encase the reactor and chamber in water. Another rule of thumb is have the reactor in the air, less damage to the world if it goes into meltdown, that or underwater.

Yep, just be advised the plutonium needs to be replaced 3 times for every thorium replacement. The monitor tells me the output, which drops to 64eu/t when the plutonium runs out, no heating issues when it happens though. It makes a lot of near-depleted cells, so I recommend a breeder to recharge them. As far as safety, I build a separate nuclear building out of reinforced stone, and each reactor has it's own reinforced stone casing inside the building. Wireless redstone and those super-expensive IDSU's mean no cable holes in the stone.

What layout area you talkkin' bout?

Getting plutonium and thorium is no issue at my stage of advancement,
I just need the highest EU/T output and the reactor needs to run full cycle

So, instead of blowing up a bunch of cable, you blow an IDSU. That sounds like a smart idea. ;)

And this is why I dig a shaft to bedrock under my house. If I decide I want a nuke I know my house is safe as I usually build on the surface or in the side of a mountain. If the nuke goes up I got no worries. At worse I just lost some resources but on the plus side it makes me a nice cavern to rebuild it in. Lol
And if I decide not to rebuild the nuke I got my own bat cave, lmao

If you put a nuke in the ocean will it blow up all suppressed like TNT or no?

And I don't mind a nuke destroying my base, it's just the entity lag that comes after. I'm serious, I'd rather have all my items be destroyed in the blast, at least then i can continue the world.

I had a thermal monitor set to shut at 250c, it didnt help, the reaction was to fast to stop, yes it was my fault I should have researched at least 3 types but I just went with a planner v3. but that said there was very little damage warded block/glass & off sets for cables seen to that, meh its just a game.

Thermal Monitor should have disabled in 2 ticks so I doubt you gained 9750 heat in that much time unless you had a lever on the side which bypassed the thermal monitor's redstone signal.
