I set an itemduct with a servo to automatically pull items from a machine's inventory and directed them into a tesseract. Then I put an item into the machine. The item was pulled and disappeared. Then I realized, "where did I just send it?" The tesseract wasn't hooked up to my ME network via an ME interface on the other end (the other tesseract paired with it). Also, the other tesseract wasn't even set to send or receive items.

So where did my item go? Into a black hole never to be seen again? I didn't think that was possible. I hooked up an ME interface to the tesseract hoping it was in a hidden inventory but it still hasn't appeared anywhere. I also broke all the machines and itemducts but nothing popped out.

Is this a server? Did you use a public tesseract channel? Possible it went somewhere else also on that channel.

Yes public server, no its a private tesseract and I just double checked it, definitely private.

Also, there are no other tesseracts using that frequency, just the two of em I have paired to send fluids (its mob essence for my MFR spawner).

Have you checked the spawner to see if the item ended up in there? I believe it has an inventory. Especially if there was an item duct that could have buffered it on the side of the autospawner.

The spawner only has one inventory slot, the place where you put the safari net. I'm trying to set up an automatic insertion/extraction. Obviously the first place I looked was the machine inventory. Not there. I dropped it in, watched it get pulled out by the itemduct and go into the tesseract, and that's the last I saw of it. :) I broke all the itemducts and the spawner and nothing popped out.

Well I'm out of ideas then. Very mysterious. Hope it wasnt important.

Thats interesting. What happens if you sent an item in a tesseract without there are any to recieve?

Precisely why I posted this - as I said, I didn't think it was possible to "lose" an item in a tesseract network. Perhaps it's a bug?

And the item is easily replaceable, it was just a safari net with a blaze inside. It's not the loss of the item, it's the idea that you can insert an item into a tesseract and never see it again, that's what's bothering me and making me wonder if this is intended. Is this the way Item Tesseracts used to work back when there were three separate versions for items/fluids/energy?

Yeah, I think once an item goes into a tesseract it has to go somewhere to come back out. As long as you haven't broken that tesseract, the item is probably still there, waiting patiently for somewhere to go. Set up the other tesseract to receive items and see if it spits out what you are looking for.

If you have broken the sending tesseract, you may be out of luck, however.

I tried that. Before I broke the sending tesseract, I went to the other paired tesseract and placed an ME interface next to it connected to my ME network (and set it to receive items since all items were blocked). Nothing came out. Then the last step was I broke all the tesseracts, the machine, the itemducts, everything... no safari net. It's just gone.

I was going to suggest breaking JUST the itemduct - sometimes stuff gets stuck in them. but since you broke them all.. too late.

ME Interfaces donot work with tesseracts...

They certainly do work. On the receiving side only tho. Just plop a ME Interface down next to the tesseract and any items sent thru the tess will go right into the ME system.

To push items into a tesseract you have to jump thru the hoops of export bus->chest->itemduct on extraction mode->tesseract. So they don't work so well for that, it's true.

If any of this is wrong - or even inefficient - please correct it.

Might be a stupid question, but have you tried breaking the itemduct?

An itemduct with a servo will pull the item out even if it doesn't have anywhere to send it, it may well be sitting in the pipe waiting for an available inventory. In more extreem cases where a system gets backed up the itemduct will get blocked and even show a message with how many items and what type are blocked in the pipe.
