Is there anyway to break items down?

I could of swore that I read there was a mod in FTB Ultimate that allows you to break items down (eg. Steel Boots turns into 3-4 steel ingots).

Is there something like this or anything I can do with the 2 diamond chests full of steel armor other than turn them into UU-Matter?

I think you're either thinking of RP2's Alloy Furnace (which, unfortunately, AFAIK, doesn't work on Steel armour,) or the Uncrafting Table/Goblin Tinkering Table from the Twilight Forest.

as long as you have gregtech installed and the armor doesn't have any durability lost, you can either melt it down in a furnace or turn it into dust in a pulverizer/maccerator
