Is there a Modpack(s) for extending the progression of players (dragging out the endgame content)?

Hi everybody, Leroy here,

I wont lie, I am still new to ftb mods and mod packs (stopped playing minecraft for a year, then everything became amazing). I was wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction for finding a server for me and my friends (4-6 of them play minecraft occasionally). I have been looking through the modpacks, and cant seem to find a suitable replacement for FTB ultimate.

I am looking for a mod that includes, what i think are, the basics:
IC2(+more machines), Buildcraft, RailCraft, Forestry + Bee sub mods, Thermal Expansion, Thaumcraft, Twilight forest, and Gregtech(+its addons).

I used to dislike gregtech, but now I cant play without it. I need the complicated endgame stuff to keep me interested in the game, and mods like gregtech are designed around that. If it takes forever to make and a ton of resources + infrastructure, then all the better! :D More stuff is better! Dragging out the players progression and always keeping something that they are working to and just out of reach really keeps me more interested in the game.

Millenaire's Mod for towns is awesome, and if a modpack includes it, then woo!

I would like to find a server with towny on, and pvp. Only problem would be that you might not be able to protect Millenaire towns, and allow them to do their automated tasks... I hope there isn't an issue.

I have done a few hours of research, but a lot of this stuff is over my head, and having a 10 hour shift holiday job isn't helping.

TLDR: Is there an improved modpack of ultimate in a more updated minecraft? It seems like you can only go pure tech, or pure magic right now. :/
Had a falling out with a ultimate modpack server with towny, and looking to update to a new, better version.

FTB 1.6.4 Direwolf20 and/or Monster are close. Note, however, that the developer of ExtraTrees/ExtraBees has not been around for months and the state of binnie's mods is questionable. It works in my 1.6.4 world, but others have had world-crashing bugs.

Not true at all and not sure where you're getting that info from. I use a healthy amount of both and they blend well.

Gregtech has gone a different direction in 1.6 and (now) mostly doesn't merge well with other mods (besides TiCo). Greg has changed a lot of vanilla mechanics/recipes. It's less of an add-on and more of a completely separate eco-system. Don't expect the same GT in 1.6 as in 1.4.

More stuff is better! Dragging out the players progression and always keeping something that they are working to and just out of reach really keeps me more interested in the game.

There are lots of ways to do that and lots of deep and interesting mods. I'm a big fan of Thaumcraft 4, bees, trees and no auto-mining or similar. I limit myself to bees and farms/crops for resource generation and to the longest-chain possible for power production. With any mod-pack, you are more than welcome to disable certain mods or blocks within those mods.

Okay, I was looking at the different modpacks and comparing mods. It seems that I misunderstood that Magical Farms and Tech World2 modpacks and there purpose. My bad.

So thats what happened. Ohhhhhhhh. Thanks for the info and I will see if there are more complex mod packs that make endgame stuff harder to get to.

Alright, thanks! I was looking for a server that has these mods, cause teamwork is op, and i also want to be able to keep my interest for a while. I do have a job, so im sure i could modify some config files and set one up via a hosting company. Yaaay more research to do!

Thanks for the quick reply! much appreciated[DOUBLEPOST=1387489779][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes, but people WILL be making private-public packs with gregtech. I'll be making one myself.
So, where can one browse a collection of these mod packs? Is there a search engine (like mtg) where i enter in the mods i want in the packs, and browse certain results, instead of all the results?

Ahh, so Greg had a falling out with a few other modders? tis a shame :/
Maybe there are other mods that mimic what gregtech was trying to accomplish? Moar reading!

Better Than Wolves seems similar in philosophy to GregTech : a total conversion rather than an add-on mod.

I think Greg has that in mind from the start.

As for searching for mods and things, I don't think that's in yet or will be for a while. Might be more likely when the launcher goes to version 2.0

Less and less modders are supporting Gregtech these days it seems, but the main falling out seems to be between TiCo and Greg, to the extent where both mods will be incompatible in 1.7.

Huh, that changes the way the game is played. Instead of players going thermal expansion and buildcraft early on, moving to forestry, and then to IC2 and gregtech, they can just kinda start at whatever

Magic Farm has both magic and tech. As does Horizons and DW20. If you're looking for longer drawn out play MF2 takes quite some time and has a very different tech tree from normal. Horizons uses a lot of new mods and has tons to explore with Roatary craft having a very complex tech tree but the pack can be a bit ovrwhelming. DW20 is a classic and has alot of the stadard mods people love with a standard tech tree. TechWorld2 is nothing but tech. And lite is a small pack aimed at smaller/older computers or new players getting started in modded MC.
