In general, with machines that do not provide immediate output, the solution is to build more and build early. It's not uncommon to have multiple coke ovens / blast furnaces to increase your rate of production.

In my last proper world, back in 1.5.2, I had something like 52 coke ovens

i have like 2 blast furnace and 6 coke oven, still can't keep up
