In 1.6.4 if I'm not mistaken. Unless they changed it for 1.5 too.

Yes it is. Extremely so.
damn, then id have to go back to the good old lava when 1.6 packs come out. I really hate lava although they are easy and good energy source since they produce SOOOOOOOOOO much lag. Squids are god like in this pack, i do feel its kinda cheap, but watever it is great for energy source. I was thinking about soul shards and skeleton spawner but soul shards have been changed and i need end stone for them so :(

Use an enderthermic pump instead of a buildcraft pump. It works basically the same except that it chunkloads itself and instead of removing source blocks of lava it replaces them with stone or cobble.

how do u set up a squid power plant? ive never tried it :O
Capture a squid with a jailor net, so it never despawns. Place it in a single water block, with 85 MFR Ranchers around it in a cross shape, where each one has the squid within it's 5x5 operational area. Provide power to each Rancher, and a container connected to each (either above or below, depending on where your power's coming in). This will produce one ink sac per second, per Rancher. Feed the sacs into a Bio Reactor.

In the latest version, each squid, cow, or mooshroom can only be milked by one Rancher, with a cooldown.

I setup a single squid and rancher to get ink for mystcraft and the magic mods, it was producing much slower than back when I played around with squid power. This was near-latest version of mods for 1.6.4.

I never found the need for so many ranchers, still in 1.5 so that may be why. Last time I used one I had 4 ranchers and it produced so much ink I had to keep the extra in a deep storage unit. I filled a max size steel tank with biofuel while doing the heat up on 5 max size steel boilers. Once the boilers were maxed and the tank was full I just shut off the ranchers. Wound up making an auto kill switch for the ranchers with BC gates and pipe wire on structure pipes. They only ran when the tank had room for more fuel. I wound up with so much extra ink that I just started voiding it instead of storing it.

squid power isn't the one that got nerfed, it's the rancher that got nerfed
Basically that^.
Even cows were affected by the change, so for those that requires lots of milk to run as throttle for your Force Engines are boned.

Its a bit of all things. The rancher and the Bioreactor both got balanced a bit. The rancher goes a bit slower and the Bioreactor had its efficiency curve pushed to make it more of incentive to get multiple items in it instead of just ramming it full of one thing.

On the upshot you can use the squid as a booster to a Bioreactor common off your farms. Even if your just doing trees and wheat that puts you at 4 item types which is a fairly nice efficiency.

My example was the biggest you could do off of one squid. Most people never did that much, but it and your example shows WHY it got nerfed.

As for milking cows for force engines, what's the cooldown? If it's not too big you can try using more cows.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.

I like this a lot- you can power up a quarry for easy firestone. Then quarry again for a load of free obsidian- and a full stone to boot.
(I need to experiment with firestone power)
