JUST Thermal Expansion and vanilla MC?

Possible- and a fairly epic thing to see too. These are the kind of builds that I LOVE to make/watch.

You could rig up a tree farm using autonomous activators. I think TE has a block breaker of some kind too now, and just itemduct the wood into steam dynamos.

The question lies in how many modular tree units (each one can only farm one tree at a time). And how fast this runs- you'll probably want a decent mob grinder for bonemeal to boost growth.

You'll need a way to autocollect saplings; probably a few well placed [piston controlled??] water streams and a (eeeuuugh *shudder*) *gulp* vanilla hopper.

Pretty neat concept here (different mod- but block-to-block functionality is almost identical for this type of farm):
You see a vertical tower of "breakers", and a "activator" type block on the right.

Is it possible to automate power production with just TE?

probably not, as TE does not add any kind of mining/farming machine.
if it did add a treefarm/planter kind of machine, you could've automated the power production with logs going through sawmills making more planks which you could burn as fuel...
you can however make lava with TE, but the RF cost for it is higher then what you get in return for burning the lava in a dynamo

I'm sure that use of many block breakers and autonomous activators could make a proper tree farm, if space and resource inefficient.

probably not
pretty much this. TE have:
power gen
item(solid fuel transport)
liquid fuel transport

if you discount fuel supply(solid and liquid) being automated by other mods, than you answer is "yes". if not than - "no".[DOUBLEPOST=1389296997][/DOUBLEPOST]

even if activator can be used as a planter(i'm not sure about it) and fertilizer, it can not be used as a block breaker.

Technically, yes, although it would help to at least have a chunkloader as well. Perhaps I'll have to add one.

Is that only through Terrain Smashers in a treefarm that would work? TBH if I had an instance with just TE in, I wouldn't try to automate it.

I'm personally hoping for a high server efficiency pump to show up one of these days. It's about the only thing that I feel TE is really missing. >.<

A Blaze farm would also work. Or a witch farm and a sugar cane farm.

So vanilla mob traps and bud sugar cane farms. Awesome. Kinda what I expected from TE. Was the intent with TE to ever use it by itself?

You mean the Ender-thermic pump? I don't want my fluids replaced by cobble though. So ugly. >.<

You had water at first didn't you? Coz I was gonna point out the alternatives.

I like it on condition I can power it up with flux capacitors.

Seconded.

Ooh! RF/redstone powered chunkloaders! Waaay better than needing Ender Pearls.

Yes. Yes I did, but then I forgot about water's duplication. I like pumps for clearing out things like sludge and oil and all those other pesky fluids that I still might want to keep.

As far as lava goes, TE3 could do as well with a device to generate Netherrack as with an Ender Thermic Pump alternative. Just keep the power costs low enough that producing a bucket of lava is less energy than that bucket can produce.

As far as moving fluids, some sort of interface between fluid pools and fluidducts? Like a grate. Similar to RP2's liquid piping.

Anything's possible for a Possible!
Quotes aside, Vanilla allows you to make a brick of logs with pistons, so adding a terrain smasher at the end of the line and an autonomus activator (Not sure how to spell it) will allow you to get 9 stacks of saplings worth of logs. Throw in some water/hoppers, and you have a (near) infinite source of wood.
