Is it possible to pre-generate worlds?

I'm not sure if i'm using the right terminology, but i would like to pre-generate a large area of a world, so that when someone goes there, the game just needs to load it, not generate it from scratch.

Is that possible?

There has been some talking about using a turtle with a chunkloader - but never tried that

I don't think it's possible in the sense that you're thinking.
Chunk loaders should do what you're trying to do though.

Years ago i played on a vanilla server, and at one point they reset the world. Before anyone was able to play on it, they released a map of what our new world was going to look like. It was 9000x9000 blocks, so i'm sure they hadn't flown the whole server to generate the chunks.

Wonder how they did it.
