Most of the 1.6.4 packs are just not going to work well on a 32-bit machine. FTB Lite 2 is the only one you'll probably have much luck with, though Tech World 2 (without ATG worldgen) or Magic World 2 *may* work for you. I had a TW2 instance running on a 32-bit XP machine and it was functional... barely (15-20 fps).

You might try starting with FTB Lite 2 and adding one or two mods at a time until your performance starts to degrade.

/me reads thread title

By default, a 32-bit OS is not a good PC. I'm sorry to be blunt, but if you have a 32-bit OS in this day and age, you're doing it wrong.

And yes, as Eschion said, the only FTB pack that is intended to be used with a 32-bit OS is FTB Lite 2, though some people have had okay luck with some of the lighter packs and removing some mods they don't intend to use. The "big" packs like Horizons and Monster are almost guaranteed not to run on a 32-bit OS.

As far as I can tell, all AMD Phenom CPUs are 64-bit. You just have a 32-bit OS installed on top of it. I've actually seen this more frequently than I would like to. The real solution to your problem would be to "upgrade" to the 64-bit version of the same OS you're currently running, or back up your personal files and do a clean install of the 64-bit version of OS that you already have. If you're not technically adept to do this yourself, hopefully you have a "techy guy" in your family or among your friends that you can ask to help you with this.

just another question: is a 64 bit better then a 32 bit as for gaming? or is it only good for ftb

64-bit will absolutely be better for anything java-related (like ftb), and should be better for gaming in general. Some older java programs will rquire a side-by-side install of both 32- and 64-bit java, but I have several Java versions running on my computer with no issues, and it likely wouldn't even crop up for mmost people.

As Tristam said, look into upgrading your OS to a 64-bit version. I prefer Windows 7, but 8 would work. All Phenom processors are 64-bit, so replacing it would do nothing for you if you're using a 32-bit version of Windows.

EDIT: I would go with a computer wipe followed by a full-version install. I've done a few "upgrades" from 32- to 64-bit OS's, and they've not gone very well. Several times I've seen it SAY 64-bit, but every program installed has "detected" a 32-bit OS. A wipe and fresh install has worked every time.

If you bought a standalone Win 7 or Win 8 (ie it did not come with a system) then you should have a 32 bit and a 64 bit disk included. Make sure you have the 64-bit disk. Also make sure you install the 64-bit JRE. Otherwise you won't see any change with Minecraft.

Another note, simply changing from 32-bit to 64 bit won't be a magical fix all. One of the largest advantages from the changeover will allow a better efficiency with the CPU and the ability to utilize more RAM than with a 32-bit OS. If you have roughly 4GB of Ram or less you will not see much of an improvement. 4GB of memory including and prioritizing on video memory is all a 32-bit OS can accommodate. If you are over this limit anything is wasted and then upgrading to a 64-bit version will benefit you in general.

Are you certain you have a 32 bit Os and not simply a 32 bit version of Java? In a lot of cases, Java defaults to the 32 bit installation. It is relatively easy to check. For Windows, holding down the Windows key and then pressing the pause/break key will pop up your system information. Somewhere there should be listed your system type, 32 bit or 64. If it is 64 bit, you simply have the wrong Java version installed.
