I wonder if this mod they're planned on making on this thread would have a water mill machine that could convert x mb/t for x eu/t? then water mills would be better power sources just stick an AA under it for a passive eu/t or a ton of them hooked up to ducts for decent hydroelectric plant output worth of power.

Sounds interesting, but before I decide whether I want to download this future mod I need to see/hear/read more about it.

Anyway, remember to have fun whilst coding and getting this working and perhaps we will see your mod in an FTB pack one day :).

I was reading the thread, when i've seen something interesting.

IC2 - GreenTech add on

Well, why not go for a IC2/GregTech addon focused on all renewable energies? IC2 add some renewable energy generators, wich... sucks. GregTech add better recipes for them, but the windmill and the water mill are still not really interesting, and they are relatively ugly, so here are some ideas :

-You don't have to add solar panels stuff, Advanced solars does it well.

-The multiblock solar tower is a great idea, and maybe we could use the factorisation mirrors in an alternate craft for your mirrors.

-If there is something wich definitely need to be improved, it's windmills. They are and look awful when we see the redpower windmills, wich actually look like windmills. So why not have a similar sistem in IC2? They could be made out of aluminium and/or carbon fibers, and not canvas (we have the technology to build fusionreactors and i see we still use windmills made out of "outdated" materials), and there could be a variant of each material, with different EU/t outputs.

-For watermills, i don't really know what could be done, but maybe like windmills : Like in Redpower, a base block with the alternator inside, then you add on it either a windmill, or a water turbine and you make some water flow on it, with EU/t outputs varying by the material of your watermill (wood,iron,aluminium,...?) or windmill (aluminium,carbon plates), and if it's a watermill, it would vary also by the height the water have been falling before touching the turbine.

-Not really in the renewable energy buisness, but, if you can get the necessary permissions (and i have no idea of if it is easy or not), it would be great to have a factorisation energy/EU transformer and a Blutricity/EU
transformer, for compatibility stuff, so i could power that frame bore with something better than solar panels (Nuclear powered frame bore:p ).

Oh and a last thing : even if you add only solar towers, i'll definitely download your mod, and i'd like to see it added to FTB.

I know you guys are doing solar, but I'd much rather see water. Wind is good, but we have RP2's windmills, even though they don't give you IC2 energy, they...exist. Water? There's no easy water production available, either in mid game or mid-late game (before Fusion Reactors). SO I'd say wind. Solars are very strong, even if people think they're OP. And there's RP2 and FZ solars. RP2 has wind energy that looks awesome and is a good aesthetic replacement, not a practical one.

Water's just plain. Multiblock structure that won't give too much energy, something like 32 eu/t and is multiplied by 1.5 at night (Lunar tides, deal with the lack of realism).

Oooh! Make something detect if it's in an ocean biome!

Yes yes!
River and Ocean biomes exist, make two different types of multiblock watermills! One in the ocean that generates less energy per tick but more at night, and one in a river that can be increased in width. They'll have to be far apart or generate low amounts of energy so there's no messing up the water flow and slowing it down. Make the middle blocks forced in river biome, and the side ones optional.
Code:
||          ||
||==========||
||          ||
They have to be extending the width of the river, the biomes are really long and that will help not make really long mills (in addition to limiting the size to 5 or something).

Honestly, I've always been a little disappointed that Hydroelectric Dams have never been a possibility. That would be the absolute epitome of a multi-block structure, and the only real challenge would be finding a way to transfer that energy a large enough distance.

Overall, you guys are free to do whatever you want with this, and even if you only pursue a solar tower idea (please scrap the buffer suggestion, though; the multi-block structure should be directly correlated with how much energy is generated, not how much is stored in an internal buffer), I still think it'd be a huge improvement over the current system.

That being said, listening to the community is always a good thing. You should always keep an eye out for suggestions that would complement your own ideas nicely. (Like other multi-block energy structures ;) )

A lot of times, modders do help out, other modders will help if you ask them (and as long as you don't make them do the whole thing for you). You show them an idea, what your coding has gotten to, and what specific thing you need help with. Bugfixing at the end is a good example. You should check your code over before you give it to them, you don't want them correcting silly errors like spelling mistakes and such.

Thank you so much for that last part :')
and in a future update we MAY add different levels of water/wind power generation (these are thoughts)
Our team is working hard and we are currently only focused on Solar.
Once again we MAY add it in a future update but we've got a lot to chew right now...[DOUBLEPOST=1365023786][/DOUBLEPOST]

Many suggestions on this thread but as I told YellowMiner, we've bitten off a lot to chew and are currently working on it. MAYBE in a future update. (It depends on what our team wants to do)...And how well this mod turns out/the public reception.

suggestion: don't make every recipe use fusion reactors and supercondensators. Or diamonds to make wooden blocks (hint: make them with sense and not expensive for the sake of it)

well, a man can dream!

nether stars and dragon eggs

I wasn't referring about that block actually (not even refering to gregtech, to the modding comunity in general, that instead of inventing some kind of fun/new recipe, like gravisuite and its parts, they slap it diamonds and nether stars, just because they are rare) and since gregtech doesn't use nether stars besides for the joke planks, I didn't mention them

Meh. I never get too antsy about GregTech.

Is it tough? Yeah.

Does that inspire creative ways to support that difficulty? Most def.

GregTech takes FTB and makes it challenging.
