I loved redpower but never got up to the computer stage. I am not ashamed to admit that I find them intimidating either. The strange thing is I understand the principle about remembering two values is not exactly difficult, but right now I am having way too much fun messing about in minecraft 1.5.2 so I am not planning on learning forth if/until I start playing redpower again. When I do get into mystcraft on my current game I think I will use something similar to Direwolf's method and it does have the advantage of being possible in 1.4.7 and 1.5.2+.

Ugh, I have to admit that I utterly despise RP2 computers. The language they use seems so obscure and nonsensical to me in comparison to Lua. I messed with them for about a few days one time in an effort to try and understand them, and I couldn't even get a simple program working. After many headaches and frustrations, I finally just ragequitted and vowed never to touch RP2 computers again. Haven't needed to either, as I've never come across something that an RP2 computer could do that a CC computer couldn't.

To be quite honest, I don't see why anyone would ever use rp2 computers when computercraft's do the same things better. The only exception is the sortron. But why use that when one could just use a sorting machine instead, or better yet a smart barrel system.

I just had an interesting idea for an automated light system using Rednet, Energized Glowstone, a Pump, a pair of Liquid Tesseracts, and a sticky piston...

When the lights go dark, it sends a signal through the Rednet to the Pistons. The first one receives a redstone signal, and pulls the dirt block sideways, revealing the Energized Glowstone, which flows up to the Pump and there it stays, nestled among some Microblocks to keep it there. When dawn breaks, the Pump activates and the piston puts the dirt back, the tesseract above the pump is linked to the tesseract below the dirt, and the Energized Glowstone is ready to be deployed the next night. .

Complicated, convoluted, horribly expensive, but really cool to watch as glowing streams of light erupt from the ground and hover in the air until dawn breaks...

1.5.* doesn't have pumps that place liquid in the world, does it? And energized glowstone blocks migrate.

The build I posted from ImArtsify is an actual variant of this. Way Of Time has been doing crazy epic glowstone curtains around his base on our server for awhile. The problem is that it has a pretty limited horizontal lighting distance.

And that is why they are kinda OP in a modpack like FTB, RR or Automagical...
Maybe, but they are not OP for a pack like Direwolf20.
1. Make a ruby/diamond class pick and an enderpearl
2. Make wireless mining turtle
3. Download quarry LUA
4. Log off
5. Have no idea where your turtle is.
6. Go digging through lava to find it.
I knew you'd be mad. I watched and said, "He'll be mad." But there is literally no other way to do it, so write a mod to actually provide slotwise inventory management or continue to rage impotently. There is no other build in that modpack.
I was hoping he'd use a Sortron. They can pull from specific slots, and the book should pipe back into the same empty slot afterwards. Then, there's Routers that can also pull and push specific spots, but that would be big, expensive, and difficult.

I've not seen Direwolf20 use a Sortron yet, I should go back through his older seasons now that I'm starting to run out of things to do (I've used three Sortrons for three different purposes - none of them to do with my sorting system - and 4 RP computers so far).

Oh and please please please, "better than Direwolf20"!

I think he meant BC's pump that is used to suck (?) the Glowstone back , allowing the system to reset itself.
The source block would still be intact, near the piston.

For me it was:
4. exit the nether because I forgot to bring chunkloaders
5. have no idea where my 4 turtles are
6. send another turtle digging through lava to find it (using liquid redstone to solidify the mass of lava which all actually came from 1 source block)
7. get one of the old turtles back from the new turtle which has finally found it under the lava
8. lose the new turtle the same way

The main problems with illuminators is that you have to use glass fiber or you lose tons of energy for the long distance, otherwise if you could use copper cable they would be ok

Ah, so, I decided to try luminators with a few things..

The luminator lights up a little space that high up, but the windmills are obviously no where near high enough for any serious power.

Played with watermills for a few minutes, but was a little bulky with all the water needed.

Course they stay on all the time, but oh well.
