Im new to FTB and Im wondering what is the best power sources for the Newbies from the best to the worst? Im currently running generators with batboxs which the generator is being run by Cole Coke. ( Coke Furnaces ) I was going to do solar panels but Its a pain to make circuits atm. Im planning on making a Quarry soon, but im also wanting to change power sources but not sure what is the best. Any opinions???

Ask 10 people and you'll probably get 11 answers, here's my (current) preferred way:

I find buildcraft power (mj) a more useful focus early on, and use that as a power base to then create either solar or thermal eu energy once I have the resources. A steve's carts tree farm is relatively easy to set up and gives you a massive amount of wood and saplings. Simple next step is making some wood into charcoal and using that to first run engines and later run a solid fuel boiler (from railcraft). The saplings can be processed into biofuel using forestry (which Im not real keen on because it requires a specific resource called apatite) or minefactory reloaded (depending if your version of that mod is new enough) which can be used to fuel a liquid fueled boiler. I'll be using the mfr version when ftb updates , until then I just store saplings.

In the latest episode of my FTB beginner's guide I make a tree farm and will start using the wood it produces next episode.

We can't offer much help unless you tell us what version of which FTB pack you are using. As you are even considering solar panels I'm guessing DireWolf20?[DOUBLEPOST=1366134075][/DOUBLEPOST]

Nah, get yourself a moistener and feed it with cobble, water, and wheat and you will have mulch coming out your ears. Mulch is also a more efficient fuel than fertilizer in the Fermenter.

Im using a custom pack that my community minecraft Moderator created. (UBG Battleguns) Its a 30 mb pack, much larger than any FTB stock pack. It has pretty much every FTB pack put into one, and a bunch of third party mods aswell. Its based off the Ultimate pack

Can't you also use a squeezer using the apples from the SC farm to create mulch?

Yes, but apples are much less common than wheat. Although if you have a SC tree farm going and barrels full of apples it would be a good way to get rid of them. Not sure what you would do with the apple juice though...

Yes, but using wheat means having two separate farms. If you already have an SC farm, you have both saplings and apples. The apples go into the squeezer and produce mulch for the fermenter. The apple juice can be run in a second fermenter for 1.5x biomass production.

*EDIT* Put fertilizer instead of fermenter :p Fixed.

What we really want to know is "Do you have Gregtech and is it on hard?" because that'll be important to figure out what is the easier path.

Starting with Thermal Expansion machines is always a good bet though, they are very well value for materials.
