I am not sure if this is the right area to post, in case its wrong, maybe some kind mod will move it… thanks!!

Short info on me… I am very new to FTB, just saw videos about it and I never run any kind of server before!!

here is my problem…
I rented a server from a MC server provider.. it has a web interface with all the different types of MC servers, you just select it, and it will install all by itself. there are 3 options for FTB: FTB Lite, FTB Unleashed and FTB Unlimited. They all req. 1.6.4 client.

I downloaded the FTB Launcher yesterday (v. 1.3.3) and the first 6 or 7 mods I can chose from are 1.6.4.. in my case, I used Magic World 2, if I remember correctly. It downloaded everything, it started my MC, I could see the server and also connect to it… but when I made a twilight forest portal… exactly as described in the wiki and I saw some videos on youtube… nothing happens. I throw a diamond in it.. nothing.
Also.. I installed the toomanitems plugin.. that shows me how to build stuff.. and in that list I cant find any machines that I see in all the other videos from FTB ppl. its like the whole tekkit stuff is missing.

Is that now my problem with the client, or does my server do someting wrong and I need to ask the support there?

I did try the FTB Unleashed mod from the FTB Launcher, but it runs on 1.4.7 if I remember right… and because of that, I cant connect to my server. The server only gives me 1.6.4 option.

What do I need to do in order to play FTB with all the machines and the twilight forest?

Hope somebody can help me or point me into some direction where I can get my answers…

Thanks!!

update:
I just tryed MC with the FTB Launcher in single player, and it the portal works… so it must be a Server problem.
But what can be wrong there? the only options I have is to activate that kind of server or not… there is nothing really for me to configure!

I think the mistake you are making here is that you are trying to use different client mod packs with different server packs. If you are using the MagicWorld 2 mod pack you will need the MagicWorld 2 server to be running on your host.

When setting up a server you should (unless making your own pack) make sure you are running the same mod pack on the server and client.
I tend to avoid using a hosts auto install buttons for any mod packs as they can be out of date and not always work correctly.

The process I go through when setting up a new server on a hosted site is:

Server:
- Run FTB launcher

- Choose pack I want to play

- Select the version of the mod pack from the drop down box on the launcher (sometimes the latest isn't the best/most stable)

- Click "Download Server" on FTB launcher

- Unzip downloaded zip to a folder called mod pack name eg "Unleashed Server"

- (optional) disable any mods on the server I don't want by adding ".disabled" after the .jar or .zip for the mod

- Connect to my hosted server using FTP with a program like FileZilla (details for FTP normally given on your hosts admin page for your server if available)

- Upload all the files and folders inside the "Unleashed Server" folder (but not the folder itself) to the server

- On my host I have to rename the main .jar file to minecraft_server.jar but this may vary from host to host

- Once uploaded I connect to my host and click the start server button

Client:
- Run FTB launcher

- Choose pack and version same as server

- Launch game (first launch will download mod pack)

- Once loaded, exit back out. Rerun launcher and then select "Edit Mod Pack", making sure all mods I disabled on the server are also disabled on the client.

- Launch game, connect to server and play.

This is not necessarily the "only" way to setup a server, but its the way I go about it. Hope this helps a bit. If you want to stick with using the auto install methods the host provides you may have to take to them to find out exactly the versions they are running (the mod pack version and the minecraft version)

oh I forgot to mention. Some hosts have specific details in the "server.properties" file to allow the server to run correctly and set important information such as rcon paswords and ip address.

When you FTP to your host, grab a copy of the server.properties that's there by default or make sure you dont delete/overwrite it on the host.

I just did what you suggested and it works!!! :D
It was much easier then I thought its gonna be.. amazing.
How ever.. there is a small bug that I dont know how to fix. the world around the spown is full of flat walls.. its like somebody took a rectengular selection tool and started to copy and paste random parts of the world.. looks very strange.
When you go away a bit and start generating new world, it gets better… but it still happens that some parts get cut off and become just a big streight wall.. also some trees… its like some1 cut of a side and made it all flat.

Any idea how to fix that.. or what its causing it?

Here is what I did, in case thats the problem:

I went to my server provide and in the webInterface I said I want vanilla 1.7.4
I made sure the server is starting fine, then shut if down.. went to FTP and uploaded all the FTB Direwolf20 files to the server.
I renamed the original server.jar and renamed the FTB server file to server.jar
Then I started the server again… and everything was working fine… but that small thing with word generation.

Wtilight forest looks fine tho.. there is no problems with generation!!

The direwolf20 pack uses a mod called Biomes o' plenty for world generation I think. If you launched the server using 1.7.2 vanilla Minecraft, then installed direwolf20 in place of it (which runs on minecraft 1.6.4) you would get a difference between the original generated world chunks and the newer world chunks. If the world is a new world with nothing you want to keep in it, you can delete the "world" folder from the server and generate a new world

-Shutdown server

-Delete world file

-Restart server

A fresh world should generate without the weird chunk borders :)[DOUBLEPOST=1390324153][/DOUBLEPOST]Please note that if there is anything in the world you want to keep, dont delete the world file.
