What is Yggdrasil?
A tree with a symbolic reference to our nordic culture. Norse mythology revolves around an ever green ash tree of prodigious dimensions, on which the universe is supported = Yggdrasil. It is the axis of the world, the mighty ash, the giver of life and immortality."

This?

Yggdrasil was also the name of one of the very first public versions of Linux in the early '90s, and possibly the first bootable CD version.

I have an original disk set somewhere in one of my many boxes of memorabilia... IIRC they also included a lot of extra free software from the Sun User's Group public archives.

I was thinking that also, but I wanted to give a deeper answer to the question..

Hmm, choices, choices... hard to choose... Not really but for sake of argument let's pretend it is...

BTW, that's Mr. Nerd, SIR!

Respect your doddling elders, youngsters, and get off my grass... there's barely enough for me.

I had a Sun User's Group public archives back in the 90's, back when fast Internet was limited to (major) university campuses. I wouldn't bother downloading a new Linux kernel over my dial-up : I'd go to campus and burn a CD. Ah....the bad old (slow) days.

Our club would have install parties where we'd install Linux and WINE on newbies PCs and welcome them into the fold of the "true faithful". Candles and hooded cloaks optional.

During the late 80's I worked as an R&D tech at a company that had more Sun workstations than PCs... When their original Sun-1 workstation's CRT bit it (it was an all-in-one unit) they told me to take it to the dumpster. I asked and was allowed to keep it.

After rebuilding it into a Sun-2 (12 Mhz 68010 CPU board instead of the 8 Mhz 68000) they let met me copy their SUG archive tapes as they arrived for my own use. I was surprised to see that they were shared with Yggdrasil later on.
