I get the base concept. Use the tool for what it's intended, gain xp for it, level it up. As it levels up, it gains inherent enhancements and/or enhancement slots. But there are a few things I'm not quite sure about.

First off, I could be wrong, but it seems that not every flint axe I've made requires the same amount of xp to level up. I mean I know that the xp is specific to the item (as in it's not universal with all items made with the same materials), but sometimes it seems that some of them require a hell of a lot more than others. Is this the case? Is it randomly determined each time I create a tool how much xp it will require to level?

Second, what's the difference between normal xp and boost xp on a tool?

1. Tools made of better materials require more exp to level up.

2. I have no idea what "boost" xp even is.

What I'm saying is that I'll make a flint axe (flint head, wooden rod), and it will take 450xp to level up the first time. But the the next time I make a flint axe, it will only take 150xp to level up the first time...

@Saice recently made a great video about this. The head of the tool determines how much "xp" it takes for the top to level up. Dunno about the second one though.

Again... I feel like you're missing what I'm saying. I have two axes in my inventory right now. I made them both. Both of them are flint heads, and wood handles. One of them requires 150xp to level, the other one 250. I can show screen shots if it will help.

1. Its just the Head mat that matters with some small math if you have haste adding to the xp required.

2. Boost XP is the xp needed for the tool to Boost its mining level if that option is turned on. In other words once you complete the boost XP your tool will be able to mine one teir higher.[DOUBLEPOST=1405275994][/DOUBLEPOST]

Most likely the 2nd one has as haste bouns on it.

The boost xp part makes sense, as I am playing Bloon n Bones. The normal xp still seems to have something funky going on, cause it seems like the xp required to level will change on a single tool. I'm not putting haste on it. Unless my mining fatigue from lack of food is effecting it. Thanks for the info, I watched your video on the subject. I also watched your video about mob griefing. That one was super useful. I finally was able to make a base that mobs weren't battering or randomly exploding their way into! Dirt for the win, lol.
