Hello everyone, I am posting because in my FTB Ultimate world I had to disable Gregtech, even though I wanted it on easy mode. I can edit the configs, I know how, but do I know how to edit Ultimate Pack configs for Gregtech? Apparently not. I tried to disable the compressing of iron ingots and the like into storage blocks, but I think I much rather have that option to compress enabled, because apparently disabling that config actually disables the creation of storage blocks entirely! I wanted to disable it because I wanted to be able to craft gold blocks for more effieciency of minium stone from my zombie pigman T5 Soul Shard Spawner. I have 15 stacks of iron blocks, and 2.5 stacks of diamonds. But I can't use gregtech and get that amount of resources. So basically what I'm saying here is, can you guys tell me how to actually edit configs for Ultimate Gregtech, because I watched someone use Gregtech and it looks pretty darn cool, so I want to play with it not making my recipes harder, and I know it's cheap, but I would appreciate someone telling me.

Oh, ILGT, I extracted the contents of your mod into Mod.zip, and then remade it into a zip file with the same name as the rar, including the mod folder inside. I got the recipe for the mossy cobble, and haven't tested out the other recipes, but I can't find your tools anywhere. I searched in NEI and Creative, and even attempted to craft the things. No luck. Could you reupload the file as a zip? Thanks!

hating Gregtech, that's understandable, it's a hugely polarizing mod... but hating his configs..? Umm, no. Gregtech has the most in depth configuration options of any mod I've ever played with. Bar none. Hating the configs is just silly.
While I sort I agree I also disagree. He is german as you probably know and his wording is a bit confusing, at least for versions below 1.5..
I have not seen his new ones although I would assume they are the same.
As for the wording he sometimes has configs for the same thing?
But yes he does have nice configs...You just have to take a little time to understand them
The Gregtech configs are one of the reasons why I still like Gregtech, as he makes his mod highly configurable for your own playstyle. For example, I don't just set it to either easy mode or hard mode; I make storage blocks require compressing but not macerating. I remove the bronze nerf. I keep some things difficult but some things cheap. I try to make it so things are more difficult, but not just a material grind.
Ideally, I think we should have a way to edit the configs through the launcher, in a very clean organized way. Of course that won't happen, so the next best thing is to have a drop-down box for 3 config settings, like easy hard and hardcore. That might not happen either, seeing all the other things weird with the launcher, so... at least make it so Gregtech isn't defaulted to hardmode. I mean, maybe keep that for the Mindcrack pack as it's supposed to be like Mindcrack. But for all the new players to have the game difficult and need to be changed every update, that's kind of funky.

People who don't want it would still make threads asking how to change it, even if there was an option in the launcher and it was defaulted to hard. I have a feeling that people who prefer Gregtech are more... attentive, and would see the option without a problem. I think it'd make more people happy and less confused, but that's just me. I mean, I posted something on the forums about Gregtech and my suggestion, so now I'm gonna have my opinion proven wrong in a few minutes, eh?

Before, when I was gathering my thoughts, I used to think that it should be defaulted to easy. And to your second point, there's a lot of things I'd like to see different about the launcher. Like instead of pre-releases that don't get updated, actually update them. And instead of putting texture packs nobody likes, put ones that people like. And instead of having YogCraft... not have YogCraft and tell people to use FTBLite.

I think the configs are one of the best parts and are a large reason of why GT largely works. Sure, it doesn't suit everyone but it suits far more people than it would otherwise. Without configs, very few would use it, I think.
well my problem is that i can edit configs for other mp's, but for ultimate the configs don't seem to work like they should. i know how to edit configs, even gregtech's, but the main question is that i don't know why the configs for ultimate dont work. so basically im asking if im doing something wrong, or if im doing it right but its a problem that needs to be fixed. and remember, im using the ultimate pack.
No, the configs is the reason it's still in Ultimate. Without it would not be there.
The problems with "configs" is that there is currently no way to distribute config packs. On our server our admin got fed up with playing first line of support for people who could not find the configs to edit so he decided we'd go with DW20 because helping people find / edit their configs was too much of a hassle for someone who, aside from real life wants to spend his time playing the game and not playing helpdesk.
The issue with "but there is a config for everything" argument is twofold. First of all; with the way minecraft works you have to repeat settings both on the server as well on the client. It's stupid and annoying; the server should TELL the client what recipies there are but alas; this is a relic from when MC was still purely SP.
This leads to the second problem: modpacks like FTB are made for people who don't want to edit configs or 'worse': can't. This is why most people (atleast in SMP) simply play with the default configs because they don't want to mess about with them. And especially the GT configs are spread over multiple files and definitely not straightforward to edit.
The solution? It's something the launcher should have had from the start: the separation of modpacks and configpacks. The ultimate pack should simply have every mod preconfigured, and allow admins to link players to a combination of a modpack and config pack. The distribution issue that FTB tried to solve is with the mods, not the configs of the mods. The private packs are a mistake, they should have opted for private config packs instead. Heck; FTB could even host config packs for admins since they're tiny and don't change often.
We would not have any discussion about what mods with what settings should or should not be in the packs if the launcher would actually be smart enough to allow admins to push config settings to users.
I keep gregTech actual machines at default but make sure to change the other mods he changes back.. Nothing more annoying when then messing with someone elses mod... But I do like some of his stuff.. Just I have a hard time building them because what do I need them for? I still do for poops and giggles though.. When I delve into IC2 might as well delve into gregtech too.
