So, I find this forum very helpful and often ask a lot of things. I often end up making a thread for each query I have, and I don't really think spamming threads is nice. So I'm making this thread where I can put up all my questions and have any help/guides/links in the same place. I hope this is acceptable, please do tell me if for some reason I shouldn't be doing this. (I am aware of the "Ask a Simple Question - Get a Simple Answer" but I find things often get lost and it is confusing as many people are asking many things.
I will try to make thing simple by: associating each question with a number, and crossing out question when they have been answered. So, to start this off:
1) Logistics pipes requires power (since some time) but usually I just disable the power option in the config. Opinions on whether its better to play with our without power? How exactly does the power system work?
2) What is generally easier to setup and use, Applied Energistics or Logistics Pipes (with power required)?
3) Regarding AE, is there a way to constantly have a certain number of a certain item in a certain inventory? *like a logistics pipe's supply pipe*
4) So MineFactoryReloaded adds the lava fabricator, but what energy does it use (will RF work or only MJ?)
5) Regarding the lava fabricator, is it energy efficient to use magma dynamos? (basically, how much power is required to create 1000mB of lava, as I know that 1000mB of lava produces 180,000 RF in a magma dynamo)

6) What different ways of automatic mining are there? Or just "mining machines" ?
Im aware of the following:
BC Quarry
BC Mining well
Computercraft Turtles (no idea how to use though)
Thaumcraft Arcane Drill Thing
IC2 mining well

7) For a tinker's construct tool, can you add the flux battery upgrade to a tool that has the moss auto repair?
8) What is the current AE energy to other energies ratio? (how much MJ/t, EU/t, RF/t is equal to 1 AE/t)
9) Is there a block that will place a liquid? (in this case lava, as I am trying to make an obsidian factory)
10) Anywhere I can get a list of ID's used by a certain pack? *to check whether or not a certain mod while conflict with the pack if added*
11) I've done some stuff with Steve's carts before, but haven't used it for mining. What different modules/addons should I use to make a mining setup?
Would I need a second cart to remove tracks as I go along (otherwise very expensive)?
*Please assume I am using a standard hull*
12) Well, last time I used an Ic2 mass fabricator it produce solid UU Matter pieces. Now I get liquid UU Matter (1000mB at a time) and cant find any site that tells me what to do with it (NEI not helping much either). Someone help? What can I do with the liquid?
13) So im setting up a quarry, and using a tesseract on each side, energy is being transferred fine, but all the items coming from the quarry spill onto the ground (the tesseract is connected to quarry with stone pipes). Am I doing something wrong? Is there a specific pipe or side that I should be using? (I have made sure that the send/receive functions are correct on both tesseracts, one sends energy receives items, the other one does the opposite) I discovered that itemduct work, not sure why BC pipes didn't work, but all good either way!

1)It actually depends on how you like to play. I for example, like to play with power just to extend gameplay. However, if you like to just build complicated machines and rush to the endgame you could play without power.

2)Depends on what you want to do with said system. In my opinion an autocrafting setup using AE is simpler than that of logistics pipes but for automation I always use logistics. Now remember that AE and LP work together really well so you could just make a system using both.

AE is more simple for me because logistic pipes are too confusing.
+ you can see total amout of items in Acces Terminal (dunno about logi pipes never played with them)

I don't have an answer for you question because I don't use pipes (conveyor belts ftw), but I did want to let you know that answers provided in the simple question/answer thread are usually done though reply. When someone replies to you, you should get an alert. The alerts are at the top right of the page.

For example, you should have alerts notifying you of replies to this thread, and that I replied to one of your posts directly.[DOUBLEPOST=1388316993][/DOUBLEPOST]
Perhaps you should have checked the stickied threads at the top of this subforum

He know's it exists, but finds it confusing.

perhaps I should have read the entirity of the OP before posting :p
Uh yeah... Thing with that thread is after I get an answer to something, I go back and read through after a week or two, and there are like 10 new pages I have to navigate through. Part of the point of this thread is that I can find any answer to previous questions much easier.[DOUBLEPOST=1388320852][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yea Im gonna try to use both. Im planning to do my main sorting with AE (fun to try something new) and use logistics pipes for automation more than anything.

Ok, so after watching all 3 of Direwolf20's spotlights on AE, I must say it looks like a really fun mod, so thats what im gonna go with :D

3) Regarding AE, is there a way to constantly have a certain number of a certain item in a certain inventory? *like a logistics pipe's supply pipe*

It's possible to do this with vanilla redstone logic. Basically a comparator puts out a redstone signal relative to the fullness of the inventory. It's sort of how vanilla sorting systems work. I'm not certain how well it interacts with mod-added inventories but it is definitely worth a shot. To use it with AE, you'd just run the redstone signal to the exporter to turn it off when the threshold has been reached. If you're using factorization's routers( or other mods that let you specify specific slots to input into), you can control levels in specific slots in a multi-slot inventory.

An AE-only solution would be to use the level emitter to export from one network to another. Network A holds the bulk of your given item, Network B is where you want a specific amount. Network B's level emitter puts out a signal to Network A's exporter pointing at Network B's Interface to turn off the exporter when the desired level has been reached. Alternatively an interface configured to have an amount of your given item on Network A could then have an importer from Network B facing it with a level emitter from Network B turning off import when the desired level is reached. This method is how I controlled automatic restocking of components for multi-step recipes in Gregtech.

Ultimately, the solution will depend more on the specifics of your requirements.

The very simplest way would be to use a ME interface as inventory and set it to always stock the specified amount of items. It will also automatically craft the items if there is a pattern for it available. You can then pipe etc the items out like it was any other inventory.

You can use AE and LP together. hook a provider(or maybe supplier? I don't use LP much and get these confused) onto a blank ME interface then configure the pipe as usual and the pipe will take stuff out of your AE network and into whatever inventory you specify with the other pipe.

I used this in my unleashed world to keep one stack each of saplings and seeds into an enderchest which were then pumped into my mfr planter.

About the lava fabs.
I've tested it and a lava fab can use RF, as far as I know it should also take MJ & EU, if you go over the energy meter in any MFR machine it will tell you what it uses.
Aside from that, after some testing, a lava fab takes 200k RF to make 1000mb's of lava, a magmatic dynamo takes 1000mb's to make 180k RF, so you lose 20k RF.
Conclusion, a cycle will result in a loss of power.

Thanks, looks like I'll just keep pumping out of the nether

Regarding 9 and ten. Vanilla dispensers can place liquids. And all FTB 1.6 packs use a universal config. So if you want to add a mod, there is a good chance its config is already in your config folder. And as for auto mining...
Rotary craft adds a pile driver, sonic borer, and boring machine.

Ok, gonna go check out rotatory craft then :)
You say universal config... you mean the config has ID's for mods that aren't included by default in the pack?
As for dispensers, can I directly pump liquids into them via fluiduct (more what im looking for) or can they only place liquids in buckets? (doable but more effort)

I believe buildcraft has a block that can push out liquids then. Rotary craft does as well. And yes, the config does. Nice isn't it? :)
