And as I am new I would like so advice on which pack I should download. I am not really worried about how much content is in the mod. The only reason I ask is because there are so many different mod packs! Lol. Thanks and any other advice concerning this mod is greatly appreciated!! :)

If you can, I would advice waiting just a bit longer for the 1.6 packs to make it out of beta. Think you would get a much better experience that way. Else you should probably choose one of the pre 1.6 packs first.

As pretty much everyone else will say, the DW20 pack is probably one of the best packs to start with. Not because its a better pack that any of the other, but because you can hop on youtube and have Direwolf talk you through EVERYTHING! in his LP series. And its well balanced so you should get a small taste of most things, so you afterwards have a good basis to choose another pack in case you prefer more or less of something.

Alright I think I will go ahead and do that pack for now then because right now its something to keep me entertained. I am having issues with my internet. for what ever reason when i turn my computer on and someone else is on the internet the internet freaks out and boots everyone. Is there a timeframe for when the 1.6 packs will come out?

I am playing the DireWolf20 pack for 1.6.x minecraft in the launcher. It goes along well with his current Lets Play series on the same mod pack, really enjoying learning all the mods.

It's not too heavy on your PC and the SoarTex texture pack in the FTB launcher seems to have nearly everything covered, so it looks good as well!

I have been using it since christmas and I have no problems. So you can just use it now.
Yes you can play the packs as they are, but I really wouldn't recommend a person completely new to modded MC to start out with a beta pack that might at any time require world resets etc. Someone slightly experienced might get through any issues that arises, but it would be a shame for someone new to loose interest all together because their first exposure was a buggy beta.
But if you do decide to go with any of the beta packs, make sure you stay with the recommended version of them at least. Don't blindly skip ahead to the latest version, they are highly likely to contain bugs.

It isnt a big deal if you use the beta as a learning experience. I play around in creative mode to learn everything while the bugs get worked out. I dont get too attached because I didnt build anything seriously. I have creative tanks/energy/strongboxes to test builds out. Then I can match the resources required to build the working models to give me goals.

If you find the packs too easy, Magic Farm 2 is a great way to hate your life.

Well I got the DW20 pack and then something happened I have no idea what. It all of a sudden said that i had used up all the memory alocated to Java Virtual Machine or something like that and wont let me actually play. Every time I try to create a new world or play the one I made it gives me the same answer so idk what to do[DOUBLEPOST=1391656895][/DOUBLEPOST]And that is a good thought process. I shall try that. But why, I must ask, would I hate my life if I played Magic Farm 2?

In order to play anything but FTB lite you need to have Java 64bit installed and have 2GB+(DONT allocate more than 4GB! That will just be causing more problems. 2GB is fine without texturepacks, 3-4GB with.) allocated for the game in the launcher. If you are only running a 32bit Java your gave can only make use of 1GB RAM which is not enough for any of the bigger packs.

And that is a good thought process. I shall try that. But why, I must ask, would I hate my life if I played Magic Farm 2?
The aim of Magic Farm is to make everything MUCH MUCH harder. You have to go through special processes to make stuff like basic tools and food and the mobs are brutal. Its based on the challenge on surviving the night.

I did not know this so I will have to do that shortly

MF2 has hunger overhaul which makes feeding yourself a primary concern. In the hardest mode you will need stacks of food to explore even a few hundred blocks. Jumping and fighting becomes a no no. Food can spoil. You get negative effects like mining fatigue and weakness if you get too hungry. This is the challenging aspect to the pack mainly. Some people enjoy that food is an actual life and death concern though.

Also you dont need more than 2GB to play a modpack unless you use a high res texture pack with it. I play with 2 and I run just fine. Also try looking for the JVM thread on this forum. It explains some code you can put into the launcher to make it run a little smoother.

Ok... Nevermind... I think I'd rather become a wizard in Magic World lol
Its your choice, but like I said, I would recommend testing out the DW20 pack first. It got the "core" magic mods and the "core" tech mods. Starting out with one of the specialized packs might be a bit overwhelming since there is so much that seems so similar. And I think Magic world gives a rather unique experience, but one might find a few things "missing".

How horrible is your FPS without Optifine? Because it has some major incompatibilities with many Forge mods, and can actually cause more issues than it solves. If you're just using Optifine for some tweaks and features, you're better off finding other sources for those tweaks/features.
