I have been using a spreadsheet for my journal so far. It is working all right. It is far from ideal though. Is there any software that would be good for journalling anyone would recommend?

It must run in Windows 10 at the least. I would prefer for it to be free though I would be willing to consider paying for a solution if the features and license were extremely compelling. The biggest thing I am looking for are the features. How flexible is it with different journal data and setups. Being portable or at least easy to backup and restore would be a big bonus.

I have looked up wiki software. I haven't really found a good solution though. Most wiki software I found was meant to be used on a PC dedicated completely to it. I haven't really learned much about editing wikis and forgot most of that. The learning curve is a big hindrance when added to not knowing if the software can even do what I want.

I was thinking of looking up forum software. Most the sites I have posted on since I started using the internet were forums. I like the way forums work and I think one would work great as a personal journal solution. I am used to there interfaces. Not setting up the software for one though. Doesn't help I am thinking the forum software options might have the same limitations as the wiki software.

I don't really want to dedicate a entire PC to either. Even though it might be possible. I guess. If I put back together one of my old PCa and found a distribution of Linux that would run on them. Could figure out to run Linux, and use the software I wanted to install.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit 001:
Features I have liked that would work well:
Tables
Collapsible Spoilers
Calendars

My journal isn't so much a written text as it is a collection of data. Mostly numbers.

I'm not for sure what is going on. I have been searching on and off since before I posted this topic and have yet to find any software that even comes close to what I am looking for.

Thinking it might be my search terms I am trying using diary instead of journal in my searches. I have edited the title to this thread as well with that substitution. The Original post is unchanged though.

The software I am looking for will only be used by one person (me). It will be used to record the data from my day to day life, as well as plan and out line projects I am currently working on. A all in one solution that can can track and organize anything entered in it would be idea. It doesn't need to have any calculation abilities. I tend to do all that manually.

Hm...do you have something of a wishlist of specifics? If nothing else, I could try my hand at designing something like that, if you're having trouble finding the software. Would you want it to be more like Word, where you can insert tables and written text, or more like Excel, where you've got the cells premade and can enter text into them?

More like ?Excel?. Where I enter the information into cells.
I don't need it to auto calculate things. That was one of my biggest issue with spreadsheets. It was always changing the information I put into a cell. I did like it a little more when I found out about "styles".

The only thing I was really looking for was the ability to make something like nested spoilers. I could figure out how to format the spreadsheet to do every thing else I wanted I just couldn't figure out how to do that. At the time I had a lot of data in that one spreadsheet and I was thinking it would be nice if I could collapse a entire set of cells into a single cell. Then be able to expand that cell whenever I wanted to look over the information in it again.

It has become less of a issue for now. I was informed by someone that I was keeping track of too many different variables, and that I should whittle it down to only the information I absolutely needed to track. I backed up the document, then went through and delete most the sheets. It will still be a issue as the information accumulates.

I think most the issue, if not all, would be alleviated if I would switch to a multiple document system. Using a folder system as the number of documents rose. The only issue then would be the load time on multiple documents and switching between them. Setting my task bar to not combine its buttons right off the bat.

I am not sure of the optimal setup for a multiple document/folder setup. It will give me something to think about though.

Here are images of the document I am currently using. I tried to create them in such a way as not to reveal information I rather not show off. There are two images to show what it looks like after and before the major edit I did to it.

Any help you would provide in any form would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this will have all of the features you are looking for but have you taken a look at Google Keep? It is a note taking application that works on Android and Chrome browsers. So anything done with it can be accessed by PC, laptop and mobile devices. Not sure if it works on iOS (never tried it).

No, I haven't ever seen it. I will have to give it a try and see.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Hrm...if it doesn't work for you, I might know how to finagle something like that. Would you want the spoilers on the spreadsheets, on the page tabs (like, hiding the names of the pages), or both?

In the sheet itself. Just hiding the data wouldn't work.
I am not wanting it to look like this.
Code:
Data

I am wanting it to look more like this:
Data
Data
Data
Data

I can't think of any way to do that simply and regularly. So was thinking of going to a multiple document setup. Where all the documents for the month would be in a folder within a "year" folder. It would be harder to look over the information as a whole, and would take longer to load and access the data. It may have to do though.

"Google Keep" looks to be a simple digital adhesive note system. I looked that over and the rest of the stuff google has on there list of stuff. Seems stuff has been added to the list since I last looked. Only thing I saw was there spreadsheet system which I looked over as a alternative to the one I am using. I would have to learn how to use there implementation if I went with it though.
