For me it is a robotic IC2 horse that runs on EU or nano/quantium horse armor of course.

Other then that It looks like 1.6 will be another nightmare of a patch for mod makers due to swapping to a whole new java and openGL environment. Let alone the new luncher that from what I've seen in a few mod author's twitter posts may prove very problematic to some modders but time will tell.

Err.. they are just dropping support for very old java versions if I recall correctly. Nobody was programming in Java 5 anyway anymore. OpenGL changes should only concern those modders who changed the engine (like the shader mods). The launcher change shouldn't affect any mod.

So all in all I don't think the points you mentioned will break any mods.

Oh I've no problem with them adding horses, that's one of the better additions in recent updates, I would still prefer more under the hood changes though to make running MC easier.
no, useful stuff is bad just listen to magingomojangajang

So did everyone miss the fact that the new launcher is going to allow them to use later versions of Java, update certain dlls that are used for sound and other rendering to fix some really nastly long standing bugs, and update certain components easier? That sounds like under the hood work as well. I know the lighting engine is also a change that is on deck and the new code changes might make that more of a possibility. And from the sounds of CPW and a few others experimenting it might actually be possible to use the new launcher to run modded minecraft without modifications to itself.

Aren't they trying to do that right now, what with revamping the lighting system?

I'm happy with horses being added in. Moreso I'm happy with the wheat block too - thatch roofs are go!

I'd find it pretty awesome if a mod added in a robotic horse. Although having it run on EU sounds irritating. I don't think I would like my transportation to run out of gas.

A robotic horse would be good if you added flying and THAT consumed EU, and the horse could store and recharge EU based items like a mobile power station. I could see folks getting behind that idea.

Call me cynical again but I don't see a API ever coming out from Mojang. By then adding in stuff mods made with slight tweeks I foresee many issues ahead. I am pretty sure we will hit 1.6 late May early June with the announcement of 1.7 by August.

As for mods. Thatch stairs would be one as would half slabs. Change the use of wheat for horses to be something else, maybe a use for potatoes? I dunno beyond this.

I'm 100% onboard with haybale stairs for Thatched roofs. If mojang doesn't do it I'm sure a modder will be so kind as to add it.

Flying horses? No no think pvp. We need a jousting mod. Bring in spears, a better judging of jumping and running, better horse armor, craftable horseshoes, heck even the mob themselves drop shoes.

I would like to see Mojang coming with original ideas instead of taking stuff from mods:
1.2 - 2 new biomes (ExtraBiomes)
1.3 - 2 new kinds of dungeons (Better Dungeons), Ender Chest (Enderstorage)
1.4 - 1 new hostile mob (Better Dungeons), 3 new kinds of food (Useful Foods)
1.5 - Hoppers (Buildcraft), Activator Rail and TNT cart (Railcraft), Light Sensor and Comparator (Redpower 2), Redstone Block (swear I saw it somewhere on Ultimate).
1.6 - New animal mobs (Mo' Creatures).
But then again, I am not amused by Minecraft now, given Jeb's direction. What the hell does that guy thinks he's doing?

The majority of things on your list have nothing to do with 'taking' from other mods. Adding biomes, dungeon types, mobs, and food are sort of the core of Minecraft. Minecraft did it before mod makers had their foot in the door. To then turn around and say that future additions are being 'taken' from other mods is a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, adding food, mobs, dungeons, redstone uses? That's sort of Minecraft core elements. I mean what do you want them to add? A new dimension? Oh wait, then you'd say their copying Twilight Forest, or the Aether, or something.

Mojang's inspired by the modding community as much as the modding community is inspired by Mojang's work. This can be seen with the hoppers, the new pressure plates, the piston update, etc. While they are picking and choosing ideas from the modding community, they're writing them from scratch and putting their own spin on them.

Oh and GPuzzle's obviously bitter and working off tunnel vision. He forgot to mention 1.1's mob AI update, 1.3's singleplayer/server merger to make mods work easier on multiplayer, 1.5's redstone rewrite, as well as the tweaks to spawners and the addition of the command block to aid in adventure map making.

I'm glad to see Mojang supporting and improving their game, but I don't get why they won't make a mod api. Also I really wish they'd make Minecraft less CPU intensive so I can get better FPS and take advantage of my GPU.

Getting back to OT: I'd like to see mods focusing more on working together. I don't know of anyone who uses just one or two mods, most people either play vanilla or get a group of mods running. Forge was a step in the right direction and mods are coming together more each version, and I hope this trend continues. There's no content specifically I can think of that I really "wish was in the game" because everything in that category was already added by some mod or another (of course I'm sure there's plenty of great stuff I haven't thought of yet).

One thing I would like to have is more vehicles (cars, planes, or robotic horses), like in Flan's mod (which I would love to see in FTB) or the trucks in this mod.

More mod interconnectivity would be great to see. Forestry and Railcraft seem to do this the best at the moment. Excluding conversion-specific mods that is, like Power Converters.

I'm against Mojang making an API. Minecraft Forge > everything at this point. Unless Mojang decides to make it as an official API.
Nearly nobody will actually rewrite their mods for the new API. It would be like the massive wall there was between Forge and Modloader back then.

Yes mojang might be taking things from mods or the other way around, but you have to take into account that they only have a limited amount of people working on minecraft where the amount of people doing mods are quite alot large, so any idear Mojang gets is quite possible that has already been covered by some mods.

Mojang has also most likely had some brainstorming meetings or something simelar where they made a huge list of possible idears they could add to the game, since we dont have access to such a list there's a huge change that some random modder gets an idear very simelar while it's been on that hidden list for a year, and when they get it implented it's already in some mod that no one heard about

I want all mods to be donkey-compatible. Please give me an electric donkey with a billion weapons and mining tools.

The thing with adding stuff like horses, is that they probably take very little actual coding. Some artist stays busy making models and animations for these little additions for the people who play vanilla and like them, while the coders stay busy improving the backend. Remember that pretty much every major release recently has had major back-end improvements. That is what the coders are working on. I am a-ok with the artists working on horses instead of other projects that would take the coders away from improving the back end. Stay patient everyone, all these back-end improvements are leading us toward the holy grail of a mod api.
