Has anyone figured out how to successfully limit the number of chunks per player (on a FTB Ultimate server)? The documentation is sketchy at best.

In my config/ChickenChunks.cfg I have this:

players
{
#Forge gives everyone 12500 by default
DEFAULT=100
#For server op's only.
OP=100
}

It has no effect on the server (even after multiple reboots).

Any help is greatly appreciated as players are seriously abusing these loaders!

That means that each player can load 100 chunks. That's quite a lot... just set it to like 5 or 10.

100 chunks isn't really that much...when a player is logged in they keep about 400 loaded just by themselves.

However, his issue was that the limit isn't working, not asking what the limit was :D

I'm skeptical that the limit wasn't working since it was as high as it was. Perhaps 100 per player doesn't seem that high, but when you have 70 people online, it's unmanageable. It's like having another 22 people online assuming each player loads 400. I limit it to 5 chunks per player on my server.

Guess that just depends on how much resources the server has, most servers I run only use about 40-50% of available resources before I start increasing them...so allowing a lot more chunks per player isn't a huge issue for me. I can see how it would be a lot of some servers though.

Chunkloading is done by a ticket system, and it doesn't stop the immediate chunks loaded directly around the player, IIRC. The file you want to look into modifying is forgeChunkLoading.cfg. Take care on what you modify in it or you may just break your server. If you don't know what something does, I wouldn't suggest changing it.

Thanks for replies.

Here is a little update on the issue: it seems as though the limit might actually have been working all along, and that the issue is with the GUI for the chunk loader. In the screen shot that accompanies the mod, it shows something like "30/50" - this information is *not* present in FTB Ultimate (or if it is, the setting simply isn't working for me). I suspect the setting was in fact working though as another player and I were unable to change our chunk loader radii to anything greater than 1 (as we had other loaders). So the issue might just be with the GUI not showing the message.

Also, from my understanding 100 chunks isn't a lot. The default is 12500. A single chunk loader with a radius of 4 was around 49 chunks (give or take, I forget the exact numbers) and then dragging the radius to 5 put the chunks over 80 (for the single loader). Just expanding the radius by one bumps up the chunk count exponentially.

The server should be up to speed as well; it's quite beefy. Quad core i7 @ 3200 with 24 GB of RAM.

Once again, thanks all for the insight!

Idk why people even limit chunkloaders. Just get the right machine and don't overload that "toaster" if that's all you can get. In your case you may be looking at the wrong problem like are people using excess RP2 tubes/BC pipes? Some idiots even dedicate themselves to lagging servers with their "lag machines" or even a lag machine that can do both bad things. Exploiting and lag all in one! One easy one I saw a YT video of is someone didn't know charcoals were duping with the retriever, cause all he wanted to do is fill an array of stirling engines. How did it lag the server to the knees and also made duplicated charcoals you ask? Every time the engine burn though a unit of charcoal the retriever took out stacks out of the chest then spited to the tubes, once the engine(s) were full then they bounced back into it duping it! Those guys in the vid said a whole chest overnight filled enough FZ barrels to about 4 Million charcoal units!! And all that was in the retriever that at the end of the vid with their backup they showed an explosion of that many charcoals and the server came to a halt cause of 4,000,000 entities at once!
