I have a base at sea level(64) and I would like to use windmills. I will use a maximum of 64 wind mills for this project. How do I setup the windmills? What level should I place all the windmills at? How do I get the power down to my base? I am still really early in the game so I can't waste too many resources. I also don't care if it looks bad or not

Review this thread: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&postID=56732
And this thread: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&postID=49260#post49260

It'll go over the mathematics of windmills, and how to optimize your design for a specific y-level as well as amount and density of windmill farm.

If you just want someone to tell you how to play the game, though, go and copy the design from the second thread. Good luck.

Are these IC2 or Redpower windmills?

IC2 windmills need a 3x3 area around them to be clear of anything and work best above level 80. Obviously you need a power cable so that's going to take a small hit to max power generation, as for power tin (ultra low voltage cable) is your best bet but they can only transfer power over 30 blocks before power decay takes all the power it has.

edit:sniped by Guswut in a way better banner.

Most likely IC2 as he was asking about them in another thread. I'm not sure why he made a new thread, as all of his questions were answered (or at least appeared to be answered).

IC2 windmills are more complicated than that if you're looking to maximize efficiency. I'd say look over this thread: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&postID=49260#post49260 to get an idea as to the additional complexity involved to avoid wasting resources and optimizing power production from IC2 windmills.

Gregtech is on hardest mode. I am on a mindcrack FTB server. IC2 wind mills. Thanks for your help

Whoa now, hold on. I don't think Gregtech is on hardest mode or you wouldn't care how to build a windmill farm. It wouldn't be worth building because of the cost vs. EU output. That aside you would be asking how to build an iron pickaxe because you've been playing 8 hours a day for 2 months and haven't been able to make one yet.

lets just say with GT enabled you need aluminum to build the windmills w gregtech, you get aluminum (the correct type- there are 2 types of AL) This stuff needs to be smelted in a industrial blast furnace. IF you can operate a blast furance you are far beyond the need for a windmill, or watermill for that matter.

Coke oven - for coal coke
blast furance (non industrial type) with Iron + coal coak for 1 steel

steel plates for the industrial blast furnace, iron for the machine that runs the ibf.

you should have a dedicated MFE (medium EU) to power the industrial blast furance.
Easist way is to get a tank and fill it with lava via pumps and a tesseract from the nether.
output the tank (large xyz-craft tank 12x12x12 works good - made of any solid non-pourious material.. glass and marble looks cool.) into a line of liquiducts or bc waterproof pipes. Attach geothermal generators (or the thermal generators which are the upgraded version of the geo's) to a line of ic2 wires (the glass-fiber works best just silver - diamond - silver with glass above and below the center row on crafting table) You will need a MV transformer to step the power comming out of the MFSU's that you should have your thermal generators flowing into. Your also going to want a LV transformer to step down the MV line to power the extractor that you need to use to get the rubber to make all the copper/gold wires to make the above machines.

The tin that your going to need to use for the water/wind mills dont need rubber on it to function.

But as you can see from this simple example at the point where you can smelt the correct form of AL, you will be beyond the need for either wind/water renewable eneregy as lava is better.

I do like some of the stuff that greg adds, but a couple months to get 5 people enough iridium for the upgraded version of nano armor. were playing on the hard mode ultimate pack atm and with 4 quarries feeding everything cept gems/metal into recyclers and making scrap to power we still only have about 200 UU matter, which is a drop int he bucket for whats needed. The guildy that is running the serrver loves making thigs harder for everyone else so hes a big fan of greg's bs. THank god we all made our power armor before he decided it was too easy and changed to to the gt hard mode.. i bitched and he switched it back.. but yeah i dislike greg making things harder by defalt for everyone else.

Cheaper windmill from carbon, which you can get in bulk from centrifuging rubber wood.

I was wrong, you can use the normal blast furnace to smelt Al with a piece of coal coke. But either way the if you have a centrifuge, you should already have thermal power as anything else will either burn ALOT of char/coal to fill a batbox to run the centrifuge. we already have 22 thermal generators and i just made a stack of watermills, another guy is working on the windmills.. but with GT its almost a waste of EU/Mj to make the mats to make the renewable EU generation.
