USENET isn't really dead, it just evolved.

I don't see much difference between subscribing to Subject-based e-mail lists and "Following" someone on Social Media. Other than various tiny character length limits, that is :D

Best feature I went along in a mod - beds won't let you sleep, and after dying, you will be randomly spawned in a defined radius around spawn.
