Have some MFR machines that need a boost, or some crops that need to grow? Know how to automate fertilizer, but just can't get ONE detail right?
I'm here to show you how to properly make fertilizer out of SCRAP (yes, scrap) and make sure it's always working.

You will need:
A timer
A not gate
A regulator
A fabricator
A filter
A place to dump the fertilizer (e.g machine that uses it or a chest)
Some tubes
Scrap Production (needs to go into an inventory near the fabricator to prevent clogging)
OPTIONAL: Some alloy wire, will help.
OPTIONAL: Covers, may be necessary if you're willing to be compact.
Some IC2 fertilizer (the one made with scrap + bonemeal)

"So I've got my supplies, how do I make this amazing contraption, 343N?"
Well, it's pretty simple
Get the fabricator down and put ONE fertilizer into it's inventory, then give it the scrap + fertilizer = fertilizer recipe, like so:

Once that's done, get the scrap production you have (mine is a router + recycler setup) and make sure the scrap is going to an inventory near the fabricator, and not the fabricator itself (for example, the router near the fabricator is the inventory):

Now place your regulator so that the bigger hole is on the opposite side of the fabricator, and place the not gate so that the line without a signal is touching the regulator, then place the timer on the side of the not gate, like so:

fertilizertut3.png

Once that's done, place the filter so that it pulls out the fabricator and hook it up to the timer via wire/redstone. In the filter, put in however many fertilizer you want to get pulled out per pulse. For example, let's do 2.

Now, in the regulator, in the rightmost inventory space, put in how much fertilizer you put in the filter + 1 (e.g I put 2 in the filter, so I put 3 in the regulator)
fertilizertut5.png

Once that's done, hook up the filter to your fertilizer dump and start your scrap production and you're done!
You now have a fully automatic fertilizer plant. Of course to speed this up you'll want more scrap being produced, and if the scrap is too fast for the fertilizer to be output, just increase the filter/regulator fertilizer counts accordingly.

How this works? Pretty simple. Once the fertilizer gets crafted, the filter does NOT output until it reaches the amount the regulator specifies, and since its one more than the filters output, this will ensure the fabricator always has one fertilizer so that it can keep crafting more.

The main reason I made this tutorial was because people kept saying that they just couldn't get the fertilizer out of the fabricator while keeping 1 in all the time.
Thanks, and have fun.

I did something like that using AE network. Ae is awesome, so that was pretty easy to make.

I'd just set up buildcraft pipe feeding back to ACT (2 times next to ACT if in 1.4.7 to certainly get enough fertilizer) and fertilizer that didn't go into ACT would go to output.

while the setup is nice, its overcomplicated. here is what i`m using
2013_05_11_17_47_55.png

2013_05_11_17_47_55.png

filter/transposer pulls scrap to crafting table mc 2
which is set to:
2013_05_11_17_48_18.png

fertilizer is put out by 2nd filter and sent back to crafting table and also connected to a chest, since 2 fertilizers were made, the overflow will go to chest.
1 such setup can feed 2x2 jungle tree mfr farm and making fertilizer overflow

just keep in mind, that in gregtech, the recycler will be modified. it doesn't allow stone and stone derived products anymore (exept gravel). it's too easy to use the recycler in conjuction with an igneous extruder.

I mean... Extruders are quite slow. You need one per non-OC recycler to keep up with it... You can make cobblegens and so on - that's vanilla stuff... *sigh*

there are quite a lot of ways to generate junk for recycler out of nothing,

I think GT only blacklists cobblestone- because its completely free to make. Smoothstone/gravel/sand takes some resources to make in one form or another.

If all stone was blocked, I'd just rig the overflow/sawdust from my tree farm- or run it off a soulshard.
Technically smoothstone is too considering water source blocks are infinite.

Gregtech disallows any cobble-derived product except gravel, which takes very large amounts of time and energy to create. this is because no-one was using the recycler without a cobblegen, and it just became a mandatory extension of any recycler setup. Then no-one would actually use the recycler to recycle unused items. it makes you give a fair amount of consideration as to how you are going to fed it, and gives the alternative matter fab amps a use. my personal favorite is to use all that excess beeswax.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
You can't punch cobble with your fist either. I see no difference.

blocks breakers and the extruder can make it for free.

I have no idea where those statements came from, but I presume you know what a plank is?
Cobble gen is just a convenient source of junk thats easy to supply- hence people use it. Cobble is nerfed my world, so I'm using the rotten flesh and overflow from my soul shards.
