How many blast furnaces do you run?

I've started to require more steel in my builds and have constructed 3 blast furnaces so far to keep up with my steel needs.

How many do you have in your base?

Just one, but it was automated and so generated steel without interaction. At the moment its actually torn down

I haven't yet run into the need for more than one. At the moment, it just sits there doing nothing. What have you been building that requires so much steel? (Not criticizing or anything, just curious!)

HP Boilers and industrial steam engines take up a lot of steel. There's a rail recipe with steel, Hard mode enables steel for several recipes. Advanced Loaders and Unloaders from Railcraft take steel as well.

Although I haven't bothered doing anything with rails (other than a SC farm that I used harvested rails for) but I built four 36HP boilers and all the tools. Unless you're building with Steel blocks or want it _NOW_ it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Maybe he hates to wait and hates to plan ahead. In which case, he needs it NOW. Who knows.

I'm jumping into HP steam boilers and turbines so I need a lot a steel. It was also a spur of the moment decision to go with boilers so I needed as much steel as I could get as quickly as possible.

I use 4 blast furnaces. I just finished building 3 36HP boilers and the turbines and industrial steam engines to go with them. That kept my 4 furnaces running constantly for several hours. Admittedly, I don't foresee a whole lot more need for steel in the future, so now I've just got 4 blast furnaces languishing in my base. However, since massive power production was a perquisite to some of the other builds I have in mind it made sense to go a bit overboard and get the steel asap.
