Yeah, but how do you go about making it have some semblance of balance?

I've never carried much interest for magic mods, but I would like to start trying them, especially since I will need some to progress in Evolved expert mode. What advice can you all give me? Is there a good way to learn stuff without watching countless hours of direwolf20 videos? Is there a more updates thaumcraft cheat sheet than this one?

I think I would prefer the thaumcraft and blood magic stuff over botania, as I can't seem to find anything in botania that seems overly useful.

On a side note, I miss ars magica.

You're gonna have to do all 4 magic mods at the same time because the recipes are all cross-linked. Here are my links:

For Thaumcraft:
Do this first: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/thr...o-discover-all-aspects-updated-for-4-2.33605/
Then use this site and make sure you set it to v4.2.2.0 for Infinity Evolved: http://ythri.github.io/tcresearch/

For Blood Magic: watch Direwolf20's mod spotlight videos to get started, check all recipes in NEI obv but everything else seems the same. You will need the Tier 3 Altar ASAP, and to make the Botania "Portal to Alfheim" you will need a Tier 4 Altar. Here is how you construct the Altar tiers: http://ftbwiki.org/Blood_Altar

For Witchery: watch a youtube tutorial, here's the one I used. Again check all recipes.

For Botania, just follow the Botania in-game manual, or search youtube for a tutorial if you get stuck.

When it comes to thaumcraft, charging your wand can be a pain so I have a few recommendations. First, make the goggles of revealing asap so you can see nodes.

In single player, I've found he easiest way to charge your wands is to just build a semi-vanilla mob farm hanging above a deep ocean with a manual kill option. The mobs drop essence orbs your wand will drink up as long as you have them in your quick-slots.

Alternatively, if you build the mob farm high enough above a thaumcraft magic forest biome, you can get pegs spawning for some of their special loot.

This mob farm is basically a bunch of extra-utilities conveyor blocks as spawning platform cascading into a 1x1 pipe dropping mobs about 26 blocks. I'll be standing in front of the kill chamber, on top of a half-slab and below an upside down half-slab, so I can kit all the mobs grouping up with a specially crafted fortune weapon. while the mobs can's hurt me.

In addition to my wands filling up, I'll also get a good supply of mob drops from it.
