AFAIK the only way to get rubies is mining in deserts/hot biomes, and bees.

You can get ruby dust from redstone. Sounds hard, but really, there's a miriad of ways of getting the necessary amounts of redstone. From IC crops, through bees, to witch spawning.

The nice thing is that you can use the mercury for your ore processing and the silicone for making the required circuits cheap.

I'm actually still suspecting greg came up with that particular centrifuge recipe with that in mind.

Redstone with soulshard's Witch cage and bam run a ton and half centrifuges for all the chrome in the world. Well your at it take advantage of the Akleat and use up glowstones for the extra miles!

you centrifuge redstone for ruby dust. redstone is plentiful and also createable with UU. it equates to 12uu=1chrome if you dont have reserves

witch farm is hard to get if you dont have a witch hut. and dont suggest the anvil because 1) fixed in 1.5 and 2) a bug.

Personally, centrifuge netherrack for redstone -> ruby -> chrome. get sphalerite for extra chrome on the way. and cinnibar.

When looking for witches, thank The Lord for the enchanted forest.
I have never seen an actual witch hut, nor an actual swamp biome since having played with Biome gen mods.

Also it's cheaper to go UU-Redstone-Ruby-Chrome than to go UU-Ruby-Chrome.
Uu-matter wise, anyway.

But is it faster to go Esstatic Bee-Redstone-Ruby-Chrome, or is it faster to go Rubybee-Ruby-Chrome?
I am unsure, since the estancia bee has a considerably faster production than the ruby bee.

Aside from that, bees are the quickest way to get pretty much everything you could need.

When will people realize that 132 stacks of copper only take 12 days to make in a single un-upgraded centrifuge. Make 10, pop two overclocks on each, pump the nether dry and you've got it in 7 hours. 4,5 if you use refractory wax capsules for lava.
