I am curious what process you guys go through when starting a new world. I tend to create a world, look around the spawn to see if it is a good location...then I generally reject the world and try again. With the new 1.6.4 packs I have been using Biomes O Plenty and that makes it even harder to find that super cool spot to dig in because there are so many awesome options you want to find the best ones.

I have created a few worlds, then jumped into creative and flown around a bit to see what was in the area and if anything really jumped out at me. I found a place that I liked that way but then changed my biomes o plenty config and had to start over. The flying around takes a while too so it is disappointing when you end up surrounded by biome's you would rather not build in. I bet there is an easier way, lol.

How do you get started, do you just keep whatever situation you find yourself in or do you do the "reroll" till you get something cool method too?

I either use a random seed or I pick a random word from something on my desk.

Once the world loads I just grab the basic starting resources (wood, cobble, seeds/food) and start walking looking for a spot I want to live in, gathering farmable resources as I walk.
If I pass sheep I kill 3 so I can make a bed when I find my spot.
I will also mark notable spots for future use.

Since spawn points are movable with beds I really see no reason to make bases at world spawn anymore.

I tend to reroll worlds at least a few times trying to find a nice area around spawn. If I don't get a spawn I like after a few tries, I'll go run around the last world to find somewhere I like. It's even harder when you're really picky about where you settle, there are only about 2-3 favorite biomes I'll settle in

Since spawn points are movable with beds I really see no reason to make bases at world spawn anymore.
If you ever have a bed magically bug and stop working as a spawn point, you suddenly have a reason to build near spawn again

Well its been a bit of a mix in the past between just sticking with what I got(and then exploring after initial setup for ideal location), or trying several times to get a spawn I liked.
But for the next world(for when Monster is out) I plan using BoP+ATG and testing out a lot of different spawns(unless I can find someone sharing a nice seed), and then thoroughly explore it in creative flight before settling.

I'll generally reroll if I find spawn particularly unappealing (since it usually takes me a while to get a bed), but other than that I try to deal with the place I've got and make plans to explore and make new bases "later", once I'm "set up".

Of course, this usually means I don't get around to that part before the world gets corrupted/the pack updates to a new Minecraft version...

I generally dump worlds a few times before I decide to stay in one, just because I spawn in a biome I don't like (Basically everything snowy)
If I spawn next to a Village tho, I stay and instantly have a home :D

a world has to be really bad for me to immediatly skip it. I often try to atleast spend 10 minutes per world, as walking a bit around may often lead you to places you actually like

I just use random seeds. I also cheat in a pair of hasted Thaumcraft boots (the special ones, forgot their name) strictly for finding a good spot. It's quicker than constantly restarting, and I destroy the boots right afterwards.

I don't see it as any different than save-scumming or constantly quitting/restarting. The point of a game is to have fun, and at least with the boots I'm doing something.

Yeah its(Boots of the traveler) a good alternative to creative flight. If the modpack contains them I would probably spawn in the boots and a charged gravichest to speed up travelling a bit. And ofc destroy them once I found the perfect spot.
