as the name says, how do I release butterflies in the feed the beast unleashed pack? I saw someone say drop them on the ground, and they eventually they turn into entities, but that didn't work

It depends how many butterflies are currently in flight in your WHOLE world, there's a config option that says if nnnn are in flight anymore will not take to flight and remain on the floor.

Unleashed 1.1.3 - my config has 2 entries:
spawn.limit=100 [natural spawning stops at 100]
maximum.allowed=2000 [max 2000 BF in world]

I haven't spawned in any BFs thru creative, or managed to find the method to release captured BFs back into the world, nor have I played with the Forestry configs...so I should have at most 100 BFs in my world.

From what I've read/understood, the method for releasing BFs back into the world is simply dropping them, as you would drop any item...and then sometime later they take flight [and cease being items]?

This method isn't working for me. Any BFs I drop sit there as items until they despawn. Same goes for the bottles I get out of the Escritoire.

Is there any way to reset the BF-count back to zero?

Try and use the Q button to drop the butterfly, not drag-and-drop out of inventory.

this is exactly how I'm dropping them. using the keyboard shortcut for 'drop'. they do not fly away. they look as if they want to but hit some 'invisible ceiling' that prevents them from doing so. I think I may have a runaway BF population issue.

well, if they seem to hit an invisible ceiling I start wondering if there's any wrath lights or such around that create invsible lighting blocks?

I do have wrath lights on the floor of my enclosure. Removed the lamps, logged, and tried to release some again. One took off but no more. The rest are same as before. This is happening when releasing them above the enclosure floor, away from anywhere the wrath lamps would have created light nuggets. Saplings have no problems growing near the lamps BTW.

well, lights like that are really kind of derpy, I'm having problems with the newest arcane lamps from TC4 aswell, with invisible light blocks.
but seeing as only one took off, I agree with the possibility of there being too many butterflies in the world already... but I have no idea how to solve that...

Try dropping on the wild, with and without Forestry trees nearby (clear vision to the sky). It takes about 20 seconds for them to fly. If that works, try the same thing in your place, but put glass to enclose the top of the area you want to drop the butterfly.
