No, I know. I personally don't use it. What I'm saying is that it's uncool for Greg to have taken the route he did when shaping Minecraft to his vision. He should have simply made his own mod to stand on its own merits.

Shrug personal point for view.

Having played with other Modded games the whole idea of a Mod Mod is not new or shocking to me check out some of the mods for anything from Bethesda and it is hard to shake a stick and the mods available without hitting nested mods that are mods of mods of mods of tweaks of mods.

well, no. I understand an addon, but with the amount of changes he wants, it would be much simpler for him to have created his own mod instead of changing all the other ones. :p

We will have to agree to disagree since this boils down to personal points of view.

Which would completely defeat the point of creating a hardcore experience with no shortcuts or exploits, even in an environment with many other mods.

Well, I'm not against addons. Addons are cool. I just don't think GT should have been an addon. (more of a change-on or a remove-on, really) He's got some cool ideas, some that I find less cool, but if GregTech had been its own mod, everyone would win. Greg would have his vision, people that like Greg's vision would have it, and people that wanted to play with the above two categories of people, but didn't like their favourite mods being messed with would still have them.[DOUBLEPOST=1357786354][/DOUBLEPOST]

If you're really looking for a hardcore experience, you want TFC or BTW. They're about as hardcore as MC gets.

GregTech only really bothers me when it comes to making the storage blocks. I shouldn't need any machinery to make a simple iron/gold/lapis/diamond block, that's ruddy vanilla functionality, right there. Conversely, I shouldn't need a machine to make that storage block back into the ingots from whence it was crafted. There's challenge, and then there's tedium, and making players require machinery just to save some space (most of the reason I use storage blocks) is tedious, in my eyes. Other than that, it -does- add some handy options, like being able to substitute IC circuits with BC gates, since I can understand having a rubber shortage due to creeper invasion, mis-click with a flint and steel, or forgetting your transformers.

Though...I wonder how difficult it'd be to make a configurator program that lets you change various options without having to hunt down the config files yourself. They all seem to use a standard format, so interpreting 'em shouldn't require too much work.

But then to keep his hardcore vision true he would have to either block some items from other mods, make is own special non-cross compatible ores and ingots, and/or go back to what he does now and alter how other mods interact.

As I said, if you're really looking for hardcore, what are you doing playing these mods? Honestly. Hardcore is not something techmods do well, even GregTech. It's not that hardcore, really. Even on hardmode, it's more tedious than difficult, and more annoying than tedious and difficult combined.

If you want hardcore, try TerraFirmaCraft or Better Than Wolves. Both of these are ideal "hardcore" mods.

Have you heard of the challenge map "Feed The Beast"... it made a challenging hardcore map which not only had mods, but required mods in order to get anywhere. If not, I suggest you scroll back up to the title bar...

Theres Hardcore and then theres "Hardcore" I've looked at BTWs and sadly that it does not play well with other mods is a huge turn off. Also I don't like ultrahardcore personally and find Mindcrack is right in my sweet spot for play style. GregTech really is the Have my cake and eat it too sort of mod. I can play with other mods I find enjoyable while little issues with compatibility. I can have the difficulty set to just what I feel is right and I get to hang out with this relatively awesome community of FTB players.
