No I don't want to do it without FTB client.

So I want to do a custom mod pack. I normally edit the mods on ultimate or something, but the main reason I want to make a new one is that FTB isn't getting updates. I want to play a newer version of minecraft with newer versions of mods, and you can't change the minecraft version.

So is there any way to make a new mod pack?

If you gather mods together and fix the configs so that they work together you have a new modpack. So sure it's possible. But I think you're asking for a mod pack that's then also distributed by the launcher; and for getting a private pack onto the launcher you'll need to get permissions from the authors and then manage to convince slowpoke et al to add your pack.

So I think you'll be much better off using the 1.5.2 beta pack instead and try adding mods to that.

As stated above plus you need a valid reason to put to the FTB team, for inclusion of another mod pack, there are a lot of packs atm, so a new one needs a good reason to exist, will it be a server pack that you intend to host, if so how many players can you support, are you intending for it to be totally free or donate suppoted, have you beta tested on & off line, if so how many & to what lvl, a pack is easy to put together with MultiMC & to generate a config file but you may not distribute with out the permissions of all the mod authors.

oops just noticed you mentioned a personal pack so just use MultiMc to make a pack for your own use, there are lots of vids on youtube on how to use & setup.

And Tsun... if I may? I have been working hard to get my pack into FTB. But part of what you have to do is make a private pack for testing. If you don't test your configs and mod releases thoroughly, you ship with bugs and crashes. I use TechnicLauncher for this (in addition to multimc bundles). Neither has the distribution that FTB has, but you don't want that during testing.

Lol I immediately forgot that I posted this thread.

I know I can make a "private pack", but that is completely different than what I meant. I just wanted a custom pack or two that I can easily switch to (from whatever modpacks I use for servers and whatever) in the FTB launcher when I want to. I wasn't planning to share it or anything.

I guess I can't do this then though. It's pretty troublesome making huge modpacks manually and switching between them.

I'm sorry but it is not our job to make packs for you. We make the ones which are shipped through our launcher and and labled as "by FTB Team". If you want to have an easy way to switch either look around there are some privaten open packs which might cater to your needs or simply make one yourself.

Use MultiMC and stop being stubborn. This is why MultiMC was made. FTB isnt for what you want it for.

I can speak with authority on this: keeping a modpack up-to-date, complete, stable and well-configured is a mighty sum of work.
Amen! Preach it brothah!

For example, just when I thought I had a 'stable' release, one of my users discovers a bug with Iron Chests, and AE just updated. So the update I'm pushing probably later on Tuesday (I do like to give the Mod Pack Team a couple of days in advance of the deadline) will include these fixes. And Forestry updated a couple of times, but it seems to be on a rapid release following a major update, so I'm going to hold off on that until they get most of the bugs ironed out. However, next week, the Railcraft update will be over a week old (barring not finding any more little issues), so I'll push a Railcraft update next week, and if Forestry finally settles down, that will be included then as well. I'm also keeping an eye on the Tinker's Constructs and Natura updates, if we get a stable release out of those, that will also be included.

I'm also watching the other mods in my mod pack for updates, then I'll have to look at the changelog and see what changed to determine if I should update or not. Most mod authors are pretty good about delineating 'stable release' from 'beta release'. Others aren't so much. So just to save my users trouble, I check each changelog.

And this is for the mod pack I've compiled with scarcely a dozen or so major mods in it. There's a reason the Ultimate Pack doesn't update very often. Trying to do all that on a weekly basis would be someone's bloody nightmare.[DOUBLEPOST=1371534200][/DOUBLEPOST]

No its simple to make mod packs huge or not & switch between as needed MultiMC it just not get any easer, & look at what you wanted in a logical manner, you wanted the team to add a couple of packs just for you to play alone come on really, so if we all asked for this & the team agreed then that would keep them tied up for the next couple of years..

I don't have enough facepalms. Are you guys at all reading what I am telling you?

I want to press a button that adds a new option into the FTB modpacks list that I can play myself alone and edit by myself alone as I please immediately with no uploads or downloads or FTB team involved.

I'm assuming that it's not possible since I've tried everything, but jesus christ.

I hear ya. You want something like Steam has where you can have a non-steam game, but still have it appear in the steam launcher. It's a bit far to go for convenience, but I know what you mean.

I want a game that has all the cool stuff that FTB has but in an RTS because I hate Minecraft, but you don't see me complaining.
Wait..
I complain more than anyone here. I should stop complaining. I should just type all my rants into a .txt straight into the recycle bin..
But I don't complain about that first idea though. On topic, use MultiMC. es gud.

Impossible. That's not how the launcher works. The modpacks on the FTB Launcher are all either maintained or at least uploaded by the FTB Mod Pack Team. We told you this. What is your major malfunction?

Use MultiMC. This is EXACTLY what MultiMC is built and designed for. You set up your instance, and you run it. Boom and done. FTB Launcher is for widely distributed packs. MultiMC is for ones you make yourself.
