How do I even mystcraft? [Unleashed]

Recently started a new world in unleashed, and thought mystcraft looks pretty cool, it's not something I've tried out much before.
I was wondering if anyone had any text-based tutorials stacked up anywhere on how to start out, though? I don't like watching videos about this stuff for the sole reason that people on youtube spend 40% of their video going over their base additions and randomly poking cows to make their tutorials "fun", or as I like to see it, they're "sub-whoring".

Right now I have a cane farm and a lot of leather racked up, and a book binder, I thought I just needed ink to start writing random-age books? Also the recipe of adding a book to the crafting grid to make a linking book doesn't work anymore. That's what all the wiki guides I can find say to do.

Any help is appreciated, even if it's just a link to someone else's text-based guides. Thanks for reading.

Sadly, reading is slowly becoming a lost art. Case in point. *points up*

People get money for YouTube videos. Not so much written tutorials. So they make videos. I don't like it either, but such is as it is.

Well, it's not that I don't like learning through videos, but I swear you could compress DW's 14 minute video in to 4 minutes if you cut the crap. And actually include recipes for the blocks he uses.

In fact, When I re-learn the foundations of this pluggin and gain enough bravery in my own voice, i'll make it my personal duty to actually make a video, for my own reference, at least.
