I currently have a 1 GB server that I am paying for. I currently run about 170 or so mods (between the DW20 pack, and mods I added) that work fine on there. My concern is I don't know at what point that 1 GB becomes not enough. There are probably another 40-50 mods that I'd ideally like to add that do various things from food, to add dimensions.

A while back I had tried this, but it had taken quite a long time to generate a new world. I suspect this was/is due to the many mods adding world gen. Would adding more GB help? Like would I see a significant generation time decrease if I went up to 2 GB? 3 GB ?

Thanks for the help. Just trying to find the breakpoint. Is there a way to test what the breakpoint is offline before upgrading my current server?

2 GB should be enough. The limiting point really becomes online users. If you have more than 10 or so on at once, you'll need more RAM.

It's just my nephew and I. So it will only be two people ever. We only do online because of the the auto-saves, and it just being easier to deal with.

Honestly at least 5 would be at least 4GB of RAM

See above.

That being said, would that change anything in regards to how much ram is needed to generate a world? At 1 GB it's really hard to say. Looking for those with more experience.

2GB is a nice sweet spot for both the server and the client. Keep in mind there is a difference between client and server performance. Without a lot of things doing things you shouldnt need a whole lot of RAM. It really depends on how many chunks are loaded at once. Generally if you have no chunk loaders and its just the two of you or even three if need be, 1GB should be fine.

Client side lag can come from rendering, lighting, and sounds. If you plan on huge monolithic builds, be prepared for lots of client side lag from all the things that need to be rendered. If there are lots of pipes and hoppers getting backed up in a system then it could cause the server to lag, but that has more to do with CPU power than RAM.

The host provider I have actually answered this question for me a month ago. DW20's pack will run fine on a dedicated server with 2Gb for up to 8-10 people late game. That is including each of those people running quarries. So for 2 people you might not have any problem with 1Gb on a dedicated server. If you run the server off the box you play on that's a totally different bag of worms.

I'm currently doing 2GB on Fragnet with 4-5 fairly active players.

Did not have a single problem yet.

I'm currently doing 2GB on Fragnet aswell, but we are 2-4 somewhat active players.
Running Horizons 2.0.1 with IguanaTweaks (~110 mods).
No issues yet, if you look away from the 'issue' where the server becomes a bit overloaded when beeing in creative and exploring.
No issues whatsoever with survival.

I think I'd go for 2-4GB with as many mods as you're using.
Fragnet is fairly easy aswell. if you feel you have too little RAM, you can just upgrade whenever you feel like it.
Takes a few minutes, and doesnt cost that much.

Personally 1GB for a feed the beast server is wayy to small. If you have a SSD and enable it for Virtual memory you should be fine with just 1GB, though it will of course cause some issues in load speed. Im not sure on the Write and Read speeds of a SSD in comparison to RAM memory, but Theoretically they shouldn't be too different. Nothing like the facture between HDD's and RAM.

What I really think it boils down too is the CPU. Ram is most likely to never cause Tick Rate lag, but the CPU will. My suggestion is to focus more on CPU than anything as that is what run time is going to boil down too.

Wanted to touch base I am thinking of switching to Fragnet. At my current host is running E3-12700v3 cpu's, SSD drives and I am on the 3GB ram package. There are 7 of us playing FTB Monster 1.1.0. No mcpc+. Its a straight FTB monster install with special mobs and lycanths mobs disabled. I am unable to specify startup parameters on my host but they suggested I use there "craftbukkit" startup and replace the jar file with my FTB jar file. (Note that Unleashed ran fine on this for months, although I know it has far fewer mods)

We all have fairly large bases with chunkloaders, extensive ME systems with auto sorting and processing. I am slowly starting to see random events of "server can't up" spamming the console. I am used to them when we are exploring and generating new chunks but its is starting to happen when we are in our bases and no one even has a quarry running that needs processing. Opis is not giving anything definitive. The mean time in most bases is 80-107, one base hits 220. When I do an Opis dump entities are below 100 with only a few at 80.

The console does not get spammed all the time. It will do it every 10 seconds for an hour straight and we get block lag when breaking blocks and then its fine for 2-3 hours with only the occasional single message.

**EDIT** I should mention it spams non stop from about 6pm onwards. During the day there is virtually nothing which again leads me to think its an oversold box.

Does this sound like the box is oversold? Would the 3GB package at Fragnet handle this better? Or is there a better suggestion. Our budget is around $40.00 US/month.

Thanks everyone in advance for any input/feedback.
