so im not at the point in the game where its very easy to kill the wither and i want to get a high capacity node in my base. will just planting silverwood after silverwood close together do it and combine the nodes together or is there a limit to how much you can do this before it isnt helpful anymore.
P.S. i dont know if this affects anything but as of right now the node im drawing from is a dark node or whatever the exact name is. im about fifty blocks away from it. thanks.

If your pure node gets large it will attract the dark node. Then you'll have a very large and very mad dark node right outside your base. My suggestion: Move. Either closer to or farther from the dark node.
I tend to live right under a barrow. Keeps the newbs away. :3

Nodes need to be within 8 blocks to merge, 50 blocks is too far away to merge with the dark node unless he specifically draws it closer, or puts his pure node close to it

If I remember correctly, having one large node in your base isn't a very good idea. Mainly because aura nodes draw vis from neighbouring larger node, so if there are no nodes nearby that are larger, the supernode will never recharge. I'm not sure if this mechanic is still correct though.

Just for the fun of it, I don't think there is a hardcoded limit to how large you can make a node, just a limit to your patience...

In what version did range of absorption stop changing in ratio to node size?

I believe it does still work in terms of range in relation to size however if the OP is 50 blocks away he would have to make his new node pretty big to make get the two to merge over that distance by which point the pure node from silver woods would be much larger than the dark node and consume it instead.

Technically the main problem as far as I am concerned is getting the node that big in the first place. Once it is provided you have not reaped the land for Vis crystals then it should still be able to recharge especially if you start to put down a few of the things to overcharge it (cant remember the crystals names ATM). Your biggest real problem after getting the node so big will be the amount of flux you will have generated in the nearby nodes as they re balance to fill the new big node.

From a wiki somewhere: They do this [merge] when the distance squared is less than the average of the current aura levels in the two nodes.

As to the original question, I've seen a picture of a 12k + node on these forums a few weeks ago.

Nope, to able to merge here is the condition :

The average value of the current aura level in 2 nodes must be greater than the distance between the 2 squared. So if A1 and A2 are current aura levels and the distance between the 2 : (A1+A2)/2 > d²
