Are you looking for people to actually come and paint your dome or for people to suggest how to paint it?

I would consider walling off the interior of the dome, and not allowing the actual rooms the ability to touch the dome itself.
Eg: Square rooms, within the sphere
Yes- you get some wastage with regards to area - but you end up with easier to work with rooms.

I would build a something similar to what @Baaleos suggested, but try to use lighter colored blocks to contrast with the dark dome color.
