[Help]Optifine Problems

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I downloaded the lastest version of Optifine the other day yet it's not working. I don't have any of the extra video options and my FPS still drops below 20 [and I can play around 60FPS normally.] Right now in order to keep my FPS at 60 I have to have my render distance to Short, fast graphics, and no particle affects. With Optifine installed I can usually have Far distance, with all the 'fancy' graphics on, etc. etc.

Is Optifine just not compatible with the lastest Mindcrack? Or did I do something wrong? Any help is appreciated!

Remember to add it to the "instmods" directory as well as the normal "mods" directory.

Ah okay, and were is that located at? I'm having trouble finding it. [I'm assuming it's not located anywhere on the launcher itself.]

It's where MinecraftForge.zip is also located.
