I have bred a pure austere bee and have had it for 47 life cycles so far but it has yet to make powdery comb, it says that it is a possible specialty for this type of bee. My question is do they require special circumstances to make powdery comb?

I'm using an Alveary with heaters so i can keep them in a meadows biome
Edit: I should mention that i am getting plain Parched comb just not the Powdery comb

Throw it in a beealyzer to make sure that it does, indeed, have that property. Sometimes it can be bred out of a line.

Huh. Looks like they moved it from the default comb to the specialty. What speed do you have on them? Their default is Slowest and that could be why.

They do still have the ability to make the combs, and you are right they are slow, so i will try to breed them into fast bees and ill let you know

This topic is rather old, but as I had the same problem just today did a few tests, I thought I might share my findings with you in here.
As above, my Austere Bee didn´t produce any Powdery Comb but Parched Combs in bulk using an Alveary with Frame Housings in a Plains Biome.
After some trial and error testing I mived the exact same Alveary into a nearby Desert Biome and suddenly it made Powdery Combs.

TL: DR Austere Bees seem to only produce Powdery Combs when they are actually located in a Desert Biome.

Bees have to be in their preferred temperature/humidity to produce their specialty. To get powdery combs in a normal/normal biome use Creepy bees.

If you had a Hygroregulator to adjust humidity to Arid in addition to your heater that should also work.

I just setup an Alveary in the Desert, complete with an Item Tesseract for Frames to come in and an Enderchest for the Combs to go out, as I don´t want to clutter my Basement under the Alvearys with any more piping to supply the Heaters and Hydroregulators. But thanks, maybe I do it that way the next time I expand my production line.
