Alright. I set up an automatic chicken farm. Basically what it did was have transposers sucking up eggs, tubing them back to a deployer, and having the deployer shoot them at a block above the pen. I let this run over night and it got a bit out of hand. By the morning, the number of chickens had grown so much, they had gotten me from 50 FPS to 1 FPS. I then decided it was a good idea to put lava in the pen to kill all the chickens. At this time, I had completely forgotten that fences can burn *facepalm*. I left for school, and when I came back, I found that all the chickens had escaped and spread out over the whole area. I need help on how to kill them without having to manually go up to each chicken and hit it with a sword. HELP!

a bunch of tesla coils... every coil can cover 4 blocks in every direction (so it's a cube of 9x9x9 blocks).

supply with power, and your chicken will be dead soon....

Golems have a range around the original place you put it, though, right? Maybe I'm just a noob. :p

Yes they do. But the range is farther than you might think. I'm pretty sure you will have to put an intelligence core into them. Otherwise they will not attack passive mobs. Also add tiny spectacles it will give them a few more blocks on their range.

However, I think I would go for the portal turrets. Just place them around your base.

oh... here is another sort of cool way to do it. Create a frame airship that has 4 portal turrets on it (one pointed in each direction NSEW). Use wireless redstone and computer craft to have it move this frame ship of death around your base

Would actually be efficient and a good use of nukes, if OP happened to have some spare nukes. If the nuke is high enough the blast won't reach the ground but the radiation sickness will. You can also wrap a nuke in warded stone to create a harmless radiation pulse that will scour your base clean of all life without breaking anything.

No idea why noone mentioned this yet. But a MFFS security station (i think was the name, its SOME MFFS block at least) can be set to mob killing mode. With maximal upgrades it works 64 blocks in all directions for a total of 129*129*129 covered with one block. Im sure that will help with your chicken problem a LOT. The only downside is that you need several blocks for it to work, and you need quite some EU/MJ to power the thing.. Since killing a mob takes a fair amount of power.. Killing lots of mobs takes.. A lot of power. I once drained a full MFFS capacitor trying to clear my base of wolfs.. Placed by a friend while i was offline. In the end half of the wolfs remained and got slowly killed as energy was remade.

Ground line, if you got the resources to, go MFFS and you have a large area cleared of chickens (and anything else that moves) within moments.
