Hi,
I started to play Minecraft and FTB Ultimate, 3 weeks ago and I´m getting stuck. Overhelmed by all the stuff.
I do not want to disable any mod.

We managed to to get:
automatic Weed farm (turtle based)
Wood farm (1 turtle based 1 Planter/harvester)
Flower farm( turtle based)

Now we think we need to get a quarry for getting a base of all resourses, but we are just not able to find and solid way to get energie, what is not burning coal.

Watermill is expensive as hell since aluminium is needed. (Blast furnance)
Solarpannels also expensive.
Redstone engines not usefull I think.

Is there any step by step guide out there? I found this here:
http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/getting-started-with-feed-the-beast.4134/

but It do not realy help me since the Water Mill/solar pannels are so expensive.

sorry to self plug but my beginner's guide video series may offer something useful for you, it's not perfect but I've had lots of positive feedback from viewers. link in my sig :)

For a straight up answer to your query: put the wood you are producing through a sawmill to get planks (and sawdust byproduct that can be made into charcoal) and use wood and charcoal to fuel a railcraft solid fuel steam boiler.

automatic Weed farm (turtle based)

Yeah, after establishing your weed farm it becomes harder to do anything else :p

Joke aside, you did not choose the easiest pack to start with.

For a cheap source of power early on you can drain the nether for lava, you need a buildcraft pump, a couple redstone engines, a chunkloader and 2 endertanks. on the other side you can use lava to either feed a magmatic engine for buildcraft power or a geothermal generator for EU.

In that pack i feel its important not to start with Industrialcraft/greg, at least IMO its harder that way (i feel like greg shifts the IC2 gameplay from beginner to advanced). I always start with buildcraft-based power, and thermal expansion machines.

Later on you will want to migrate from lava to something better, thats where Ako's suggestion comes into play, you can automate a large wood farm and then either feed planks to a boiler or cook the wood into charcoal (planks are a bit more efficient, but only if you use thermal expansion sawmill wich gives 6 planks per log). Steam is a great mid-level to high-level power source (and my favorite one).

TIP: During boiler heat-up phase its useful to place a chest next to the fireboxes, as itll automatically take fuel from adyacent inventories (and itll use fuel FAST).[DOUBLEPOST=1369057333][/DOUBLEPOST]Forgot to mention, im just starting an ultimate map myself (tho i tweaked the configs) If you want i could show you my current setup (im finishing the lava stage, about to move to boilers soon).

Lemme know if you wnat to visit me :) (PM me or something)

I guess, with quarry you mean the bc quarries.

since you already have a plant farm, go for a fermenter + still from forestry and some combustion engines from buildcraft. that should be sufficient. you just need fertilizer (mulch or ash from peat, or make a trip to some high mountains and look for apartite) and then you can get large quantities of biofuel.

or the even easier version: look out for oil wells, grab oil with a bucket and burn it in an combustion engine...

by the way, if you have a quarry, that means you already have a setup for processing materials up to titanium... (means ind. blastfurnace and so)... that doesn't sound so bad to me.
