Having played Thaumcraft in 1.6.4 with both the old system (in which we could use tubes to carry all of it for us), and the new system (where the golems are handling it all for us), I have to say I definitely prefer the old method.

My question is, is there a way to go back to that old system? I've tried filtered tubes, normal tubes, labels (on both jars, and tubes), and it isn't always sucking the essentia out of the alembics. So looking for some alternative to using the golems here.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,

Brian

I don't believe that there is a way of going back to the old mechanics (which basically had the tubes as an abstract network with inputs and outputs, but nothing in the middle), from the new mechanics (where each pipe segment can only carry one type of essentia at a time.

It could be possible if you had a single alembic on top of the furnace, and connected it to one long pipe, with void jars coming off of it (so there would never be any loops or gummed up sections), but that's not exactly practical.

My way, this time around, was to put the essentia above the infusion crafting room, as a ceiling, with the golem walking on top. It means that there are never path-finding issues (as the route is always along a flat plane), and I have another furnace elsewhere in my base for the other aspects that're needed (potentia for my jetpack, ignis for when I want to make nitor, etc.).

That's when you simplify the path. Either having a "maintenance tunnel" behind your essentia wall, or a room above it.

Golems are derpy but i dont see the issue. i have an alter with 12 pedestals in the center of the room then the 51 jars in a U shape around the alter at the walls. My golems do everything i ask just fine, they might get hung up for a split second but they find the correct path very quicky. They are never stuck for more then a second but they really dont get hung up much. Im curious what you have around your alter that is affecting them more, if its the instability items just move them underground, this still helps the alter and its out of the way.

I liked DW's cheap and quick fix for golem pathing... He cleared a pathway behind the jars and put a fence up blocking off the crucibles so the golem could only go behind the jars.

That is what I started doing, but I run into an issue. I created a tallow golem, and gave it the alchemy core to transfer the essentia, but what upgrades do I need to give it so it will actually do something and not just stand there.

It isn't holding a jar, nor is it making any attempt to move.

Thoughts?

You need to use the golemancer's bell to tell him where he can go. Right click him with the bell once then right click the first and last jars in your rows. Also it helps using void jars because otherwise he will just stop working when one is full. I just built a room taking into account golem derpyness (no half blocks or other things of that nature on the floor) and he seems to love it.

What did you bind the golem to? You have to right click the golem to something first.
...also wasn't the Alchemy Core for helping with fluid transport, not essentia? I thought the correct core was Decanting, but I haven't used golems since a TC 4 test world, so I have no idea which is which anymore.

According to the thaumonomicon, the decanting is for fluid, alchemy is for essentia. In any even, I've tried with both.

I right clicked the golem, and the beginning and end of each row, as well as the furnace, but it still isn't moving at all. Not sure what I am doing wrong, as it isn't even holding a jar in its hands yet.

Sounds like you don't have the correct core then. IIRC (keep in mind I use other magic mods primarily) as soon as the core is put on him, he'll start holding a jar.

You have to hold the golem in your hand and rightclick it on the furnace. The block the golem is placed on is the block it will work from. Then mark all the jars that it is allowed to work with. If you just rightclicked the golem down on the floor, it will try to empty the floor from essentia(which obviously wont work).

That was my problem. I thought it was the floor, which I did, and not the machine.

All is working now.
