My crew has just started a new servr world for 1.1.2 and we have decided to allow Gregtech to the party this time. We basically rinsed all the other mods and need more blocks to play with.

Anyway, we are very experienced in Minecraft and modding but for some reason, when we built our tech centre last night, we realised we had built it entirely of wood. o_O Yeah...

So anyway, this building is probably the most mental building we have ever built (both in design and practicality) and we don't really want to change it so will the lightning rod from GTech actually attract most lightning strikes to itself thus drawing them away from our wooden building or does it just not function like that?

The wiki doesn't really mention this sort of thing.

The lightning rod is used to generate large amounts of electricity during thunderstorms. However, it's based on a percent chance and not if lightning actually strikes the darn thing. So no, it doesn't function like that.

Just make an invisible MFFS shield or something.

The gregtech lightning rod otherwise also called the random rain/thunderstorm eu generator has nothing at all to do with actual lightning.

However, lightning could still strike your building and a metal roof could save you a lot of trouble.

if you want to keep the aesthetic, try making the top layer of your roof out of microblocks. that should keep them from igniting. Alternatively, setup a automated rainmaker with dissipation charges to stop it whenever it rains

Wood building really aren't the issue any way. Lightning only strikes when it is raining or storming out side. So the rain puts out any fire almost instantly. I've built wooden building in both vanilla and modded MC after the firespread was changed and never had an issue with on burning to the ground unless I set it on fire somehow. Also, the only natural forest fires I've ever seen were near surface lava.

I've even had lightning strike my AESU that was next to my ulitimate hybrids (lost them and some other nearby equipment). They were less than 20 blocks from my wooden house. Even though I logged into to a crater next to my house. My house was still intact.

You could have just gone up to y=200 or something and then create a huge glass roof. No more rain and no more lightning, ever :D
