I think that, in time, even the US will gradually convert to metric (after all, we use calories to measure food, watts to measure electricity (actually kilowatt-hours, which are arguably more ridiculous than feet and inches), and liters to measure soda bottles)... but it's anyone's guess how many more centuries that will take.
